Azad mama.. I am actually a Creative fan.. I have a 40 GB Nomad Jukebox 3 (NJB). Except the size disadvantage, the Creative players are regarded THE BEST sounding MP3 players (by audiophiles.. who can name at least one MP3 player other than the iPod ). For the record, I owned the iRiver iHP120 for a few weeks, but sold it off as I found that the sound quality is in fact inferior to the Creative NJB3. I am looking to get the Rio Karma or the new iPod soon. If size is no bar, go Creative 'NJB3' or 'Zen Extra'.. THE BEST BANG FOR BUCK. The kicker for iPod fans is: the students get about $30 discount direct from Apple.. That makes the new 4th generation 20GB iPod only $269 before taxes. Go to the Apple store on the web at apple.com, and check out 'Education discounts'} Proud member of 'Head-fi.org' - the best online community for hi-fi audio enthusiasts on the internet - Check it out. |

Chiru007, I guess looks are important to you, so I would suggest the newly launched 4th Generation iPod over the similarly priced iRiver iHP series players. The newer generation of iPod has an improved battery life (12 hrs according to Apple, as compared to 8 hrs of previous generations), and it is ever so slightly thinner and smaller than the previous generation iPods. iPods now support 'Apple Lossless' format which gives you the CD quality or at least double the quality of 128 kbps MP3s at less than half the size of a WAV file. And the biggest reason yet, to get the new iPods is their price drop to $299 for the 20GB models. At this price, no other player combines the looks and performance as the iPod. The iRiver iHP series of players are THE MOST feature packed of the current MP3 players, but not many people need all those features.. right?? The FM player feature is virtually useless unless you are in the open, and the recording options are not needed for everyone. Added to that, iRiver has poor history of long-delayed firmware releases and bugs. The battery life of 16 hours is great, but if that is the deal-clinching criterion, there are options for iPod that extend the battery life to upto 50 hours for a cost of around $40. So, all things considered, if the choice is between the iRiver iHP series players and the new 4th Gen iPod, I would suggest you to get the iPod. There are several other worthy choices like the Rio Karma and the Creative Nomad/Zen series that are considered to be THE best sounding players on the market. But they have their own little negative points, so, if you are really serious about spending your money wisely, I suggest you read the posts in the 'Portable Audio' section of the web forum 'Head-fi.org'. My username on that forum is 'raaj'. On that forum, you will find tonnes and tonnes of user feedbacks and reviews, and lots of very knowledgeable and helpful people who can aid you in making the best choice for yourself. Also checkout 'dapreview.com'. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING UNTIL YOU'VE READ THE ABOVE FORUMS, AND MAKE A WISE DECISION. GOOD LUCK. IRIVER has more features like FM Radio, voice recorder and has a 16hour battery unlike 6hour IPOD Battery. Also it comes with remote and case for the same price. Only drawback is it looks ugly compared to IPOD. Can anybody post some more suggestions please. |
