I wanted to use 'bandied about', morning blues
i saw maqbool on dvd. quality was good, but the volume was low. let me know when you see it.

parodied?that was the last thing on my mind..
have to rethink on that..
i personally thought it's a serious take on the hypocritical, narrow walls(our fears of innocence lost) we tend to surround ourselves with and in the process entangle ourselves in a loop from which we could never come out..('Cos remember.. in the end they decide to continue in the loop)..
as in Shakespeare's O, what a tangled web we weave, When first we practise to deceive!(from JFK)
regarding maqbool..i would always prefer to watch movies like these either on screen or dvd(or any format with good quality)..thats the reason i waited for KB2, village, Terminal,city of god, eternal sunshine etc though the prints were out with poor quality..
in case of maqbool the dvd isn't out yet and the current quality of the print sucks.. and going by the reviews of my friends..i have decided to wait..so please dont tempt me(
Btw how is the print out there?

hmm .. serious exception. I think what he tried is exactly the opposite. an allegorical tale was told in the cloak of a scary, often parodied premise. and I guess that's his style and he has not deviated from it one bit.
sixth sense - purpose: love, redemption. tool: visions of the dead scares
signs - purpose: coincidence or god, tool: alien invasion
unbreakable - purpose: destiny. tool: mysterious accidents
village - purpose: a masked, veigned take on present day society. tool - THE village.

Anyways, coming to the 'walker' thing, a friend of mine suggested this and I also got the inkling but never gave it serious thought. now, walker happens to be the middle name of George Bush Jr. the ranch/dwelling/whatever is named 'walkerian' or some such thing where 'PEOPLE ARE HELD IN FEAR OF THE UNKNOWN' - vide orange, red, my ass alerts.

Chalam ..actually It's the basic concept which turned me off..I always go for the concept first.. Though NAA AUTOGRAPH slacks in screenplay and has a few glitches i rated it as my best of the year 'cos i liked the concept a lot(and a beautiful ending too)..
Infact as a poor interpreter of thoughts here are a few lines i read(after i saw the movie) which are mirror images of what i thought about the movie..
The last thing I want to do is spoil the fun, meager though it is. I will say, though, that while I am generally pretty obtuse about these matters, I had an inkling early on of where ''The Village'' was going, which I then dismissed as too ridiculous to consider. When I turned out to be right I felt less vindicated than cheated. The film's ridiculousness would not be so irksome if Mr. Shyamalan did not take his sleight of hand so seriously, if he did not insist on dressing this scary, silly, moderately clever fairy tale in a somber cloak of allegory.
The last line in the above review is exactly what i felt about the concept..its the allegory which turned me off..
BTW ..I didn't get the deeper meaning of WALKER.. kaastha gnanodayam cheya valasindhi gaa manavi..

Nope..The thought of inferior/superior comparison betwen these two movies never striked me and i would be the last one to come barging into a thread on VILLAGE and compare it to Kill bill and remark that the latter is superior..i was only trying to establish that the name MNS sells a lot in INDIA.

I don't think Kill Bill even has as much soul as The Village.. If there was any movie that was too pretentious for it's own good, it was Kill Bill.. Absolutely nothing in the movie.. reminded me of the worst RGV movie.. Phhht.. Glorified and decorated PoC..

what about the concept he was trying to portray ? I was disappointed cuz I guessed the idea loooooooong back when I saw the first trailer. also there is a deeper meaning ( I think ) about the use of the name 'walker'. figured it ?

Interesting thing is that the name MNS sells a lot here..went to KILL BILL 2 for the morning show of the first day and hardly 4 rows were full..and VILLAGE is running housefulls even on monday nights.. after seeing the village i personally felt that movies like THE OTHERS would have been more commercially viable here In India but still such movies dont even get released since there's no name tag attached to it. on the other hand its completely different with a mediocre movie like village which has the tag MNS attached to it..
