May be he wanted to work under David Lynch as his assistant.. but its strange that he ended up as his driver initially..or was it a typo ?
Off the topic.. talking about Lost Highway.. I still rememmber the time when u made me watch that movie Amar  .. just kidding. Frankly, i still did not understand that movie and i haven't tried watching it recently. May be I should rent it sometime..

Deepak Nayar who produced one of my favourite film called Lost Highway was car driver of David Lynch for certain time.
I am still unable to comprehend how a car driver got so much money to peoduce that movie, maybe David Lynch put him as an executive producer.
