Sam, I am from a village near GDV but always used to go to GDV for every new release. I don't have any hero preference, basically cinema pichi, like many andhrites. I enjoy reading this BTDB but never posted in cinema related threads. I sent you a mail from my gmail account. More later. |

GDV maaama, I have trading account. This all started because I got trading account for my company stok options (ESPP). my third para you are mention about is. I want to knwo few companies that you think are good to study for investing. You said energy and metal sector but I have no idea about any companies in that region. Can throw some light about few companies in that business. As I want just spend sometime reading/studing those companies. |

Sam mama, Initiallly I started with 3-4K and after tasting profits of 2K slowly investment increased to 16K and networth increased to 22K. AFter that stock market crash. Waited thinking it may bounce. Then 911 and finally eneded up at 1500. Around 14K bokka padindhi. Almost all stocks ammesenu anuko. losses ni year ki 3K soppuna soopinchukoni tax rebate 700 sampadinchenu (sachinodi pelliki vachindhe katnam ani). Now I limited my self to ivestments in 401Ks and IRA to get some tax releif. If u want to invest try mutual funds with 2-3K. there risk is minimal. Typically u wont loose more than 20%. |

I fully agree with "Tifosi". Do your home work. You can listen to all people you want, but final decision should be yours and you should be ready to take credit/blame in case of success/failure. If you are genuinely interested in the subject, it is not that difficult to play this game. Again DON'T JUMP IN RIGHT AWAY. Take your time.

Sam, I didn't understand your 3rd para. I try to explain what I think is correct. Let's say you open an account with $3k. No matter what happens, you are playing only with that amount and never add to that. You don't have to buy stocks or funds right away, keep that money in the trading account. Take your time to understand the company, business, read and digest their quarterly statements etc. By no means this is an easy task and you should be willing to allocate some time to do all these things. My trading account is with TDWaterhouse. They have very good data base on most of the stocks. Don't be hasty. Have patience, wait and learn as much as possible, it always pays. Recommending individual stocks for $3k total is bit difficult because unless you buy minimum lot, you end up with more fee (per share basis) while trading. Do you have a trading account? If not, first work on it, and it will take a week or so. We will discuss about stocks later. |

Yeah sure tifosi maaamaa and thank for for that good one. I need to be taking my own decisions otherwise first thing is it will spoil relationship. now what I wanted is some symbols to study and decide. May while I do that I can be refred to some other symbols and so forth. |

sam mama, another thing is .... you will have to make your own choices and decisions....based on your research. or if you feel that you dont have the time...open a money market account and your fin institution will be more than happy to guide you. Im not saying dont trust anybody....All im saying is at the end of the day the decision has to be your own. |

gdv maamaaa chala thanks maaama. Nuvvu cheppina point by point advise bagundhi. Then my first step shouold be defining risk level that I can afford/sustain. I would say 25% based on my investing hoping I would never put more than 3K in stocks as my capitol. Max risked amount is 3K * 25% = 750$ + 100$ exp (buying/selling etc) = $850 total. What is better exit stratgy? Don't keep more than certain amount in portfolio, is it better? Say whatever happens I will be loosing $850 max from my portfolio. Advise please. Third one, could you give me few (around 10)symbols to monitor about the the performance. Say study those and invest if interested kind of stuff. Thanks maama you can email me @ samdeals@sbcglobal.net

From my experience, for any one who wants to jump in to the market: First you should know your risk level. Secondly you should have strict rules while buying and selling the stocks. I feel you should have very strict exit strategy. Most of us normally very bad at this. Third, never go emotional with any stock. We normally keep losers assuming they will come back we will break even and we sell winners at little profit to satisfy our ego. We want to tell every one that we did good on couple stocks for little profits and but we never want to mention the losers. Just human nature, I guess. I follow these rules now and am beating market for the last three years. Before that when I started five years ago (without any knowledge or set rules), I lost almost $12k in first two years. My rules of trading: I will never buy a stock that is not making profit. P/E ratio should be around 15. I would look for earnings and growth history of the company. Use STOP LOSS for every stock based on your risk level. If your risk level is 10% just sell the stock if it falls 10% from your purchase price. This way you conserve the capital. This is very important and most of the people (including me) normally ignore this and stick with the stock and lose most of the capital. My picks at present are energy and base metal sectors. I am sitting on 60% cash in my portfolio just because of uncertainity. Once the election is over, we will get some clarity, I guess. This is very interesting subject for me and if any of you are interested I want to continue the discussion. Have a good day.

Sam mama, somehow you got interest into shares. Nothing wrong in buying shares if you know what u r doing. Atleast in the beginning you shouldn't be greedy and should play safe, in the sense, first try to understand the system. I advice you to start with a capitol of $500 and not more than that, but at the same time, find someone who can guard you (if u are married, your wife could help). Guarding in the sense, who can stop you if you are going too greedy or investing large amounts. Play safe. Always try to get the investment first, think about profits later.

break it up into high medium and low return profiles...based on what you want to earn in the short term and long term... usually all bluchips are expensive but are safe bets...you can go to sites like yahoo financial or ny times financial and see big broker house rating and outlook forcast for the companies youd like to invest in...some times mutual funds can be good. medical, energy and banking are usually safe bets.. |
