Ambati Rayudu to replace Sachin Tendulkar at no. 4: Captain of India U-19, Rayudu shot into prominence two years ago in England when he blazed away to an unbeaten 177 against England U-19 to help India U-19 to a clean sweep in the one-day series.
Cool, composed and ever hungry for runs, Rayudu has been scoring tons since he was a kid. Playing for India U-15 he scored a swashbuckling century against West Indies in the Junior World Cup which caught everyone’s eyes. It was quite clear then if this Nawab from Hyderabad was headed for bigger things.
Rayudu's short career have been full of headline grabbing events. Last year he captained India U-19 to Asia Cup triumph. In the same tournament Irfan Pathan destroyed Bangladesh taking nine wickets prompting selectors to pick him to tour Australia, rest of course is history.
Rayudu once hit 152 which included ten sixes for his college team chasing a victory target of 156 in an inter-college tournament like Tendulkar. In his first season in Ranji trophy, Rayudu blazed a double century and a century against Rajastan in the same match. A talent to reckon with, he is India's next big hope in the Indian middle-order.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni to replace Rahul Dravid at No 3: This 23 year old from Bihar has all the makings of a dashing wicketkeeper/batsman India so desperately needs. A flamboyant batsman who doesn't mind going over the top, it's just a matter of time before Dhoni is given a national call-up.
He has already scored 10 half-century in domestic cricket. Significantly he has taken 65 catches and stumped 13 batsmen. He played a big hand in India's victory in the triangular series final at Nairobi where India 'A' beat arch rivals Pakistan 'A' rather easily.
India could do with a confident keeper who doesn’t mind coming anywhere in the batting order, a lot like Gilchrist who keeps his batting order flexible. A batting average of over 32 in domestic first class matches and over 55 in limited overs, speaks for itself. He's got the flair and passion to go all the way. Dhoni's been playing domestic cricket for five years now, time to blood him is now, a few seasons later would be too late for him.
Shikhar Dhawan to replace Sourav Ganguly at No 5: He shot into fame with a barrage of centuries in the Junior World Cup this year. He blazed three magnificent tons piling up an elephantine 505 runs at a shattering average of nearly 85, alas it wasn't enough to win India the cup as they were beaten by South Africa in the semi-final.
A southpaw, this Delhi batsman could be the ideal foil to his state chum Sehwag in the Indian team. He's a confident batsman with a sound technique and a temperament to match. He already has talent, if blooded now into the Indian team it could do wonders to his confidence.
Robin Uthappa to replace VVS Laxman at No 6: Another wicket-keeping option, this 19 year from Kartnatka cut his teeth in the U-19 World Cup in Bangladesh. He was instrumental in India kicking off their campaign in style with a stylish 175 run opening stand with Shekhar Dhawan against Scotland. His medium pacers can prove to be handy in a situation when our main bowlers tire. He has all the ingredients of a quality all-rounder which India so desperately lacks down the order. |
