Naakythe movie nacchindi. Songs, Performance, direction are highlights of the movie. U.S. (Infact even U.K lo koodaa) lo Sharukh gaadiki antha craze enduko ardham kaadu. India lo emo kaani, Abroad lo maatram Sharukh ki migatha hero la openings ki chaala tedaa vundi. Okati kaadu, rendu kaadu migatha top heroes kanna double openings vastaayi. Mind blowing crowd. I have been observing this for the past few years and the turn out/opening for his movies is fantastic and not reachable(even close) by anyone. Living Legend Amitabh koddi sepe ayinaa as usual gaa chaalaa baagaa chesaadu. You won't believe, Amitabh's entrance got more response than Sharukh. It once again displayed that he is ever green super star.Rani Mukherjee also acted well. Just for songs you can watch this movie.Second half koddigaa heavy ayyindi kaani but definitely Yash Chopra - Sharukh combo lived up to the expectations. Some of us might not like the heavy second half(later part) but for sure, this is going to be another blockbuster to Sharukh(Veedi time ippudu chaalaa baagundi, 5th hit movie ni 2 years) |

http://www.rediff.com/movies/2004/nov/12veer.htm It's gross but true. When you got to itch, you got to itch. Scratching a couple of times may provide much needed relief but try doing that incessantly and a rash is guaranteed. LOL..... |

AW at our place the crowds goto movies usually over the weekends. that was just the second show in entire state (1.30, 5.30 and 9.30). we were the only people 4 until the show started but three more came in later. I guess today evening shows are the litmus test. But SRK pulls the crowds. as i said barring few slow narration scenes one will like the movie instantly for the emotions which were oven very well. bradio: was there any mention that rani is daughter of manoj bajpai??? i dont think so. he left for vilayat after the nikha is cancelled right?? also she tells in the beginning that her dad fought for the upliftment of ladies of Pak which RAZA (manoj) never did. clarify pls |

i liked this movie very very much. will be instant HIT. at times the narration appears to be slow but wins your hearts. Scenes involving SRK and Kirron Kher, Rani asking the Sentry to give respect to SRK, the Same sentry giving witness in the court for SRK are simply great. I liked the movie very much. oppice nundi egesukuni 5.30PM show ki vellanu. 3.15hrs nonstop (no interval) koochopettadu. somehow i really liked the human emotions that were handled in the movie.

Veer-Zaara By Taran Adarsh, November 12th, 2004 - 1600 hrs IST Laila-Majnu. Heer-Ranjha. Sohni-Mahiwal. Salim-Anarkali. Now add one more pair to the list of legendary lovers: Veer-Zaara. The wait is finally over. The keenly anticipated, eagerly awaited film of the year has finally hit the marquee. Yash Chopra’s VEER-ZAARA has arrived. And does it sweep you off your feet! Besides an ensemble star cast, the film follows the Yash Raj tradition to the T. There’s romance, there’s a strong dose of emotions, there’re songs aplenty, there’s drama... But, most important, it has soul, which has been lacking in most movies of late. Let’s clarify a few myths floating around, within and outside the industry. * VEER-ZAARA is not HENNA. The only similarity is that both HENNA and VEER-ZAARA had the guy from India falling in love with the girl from Pakistan. The semblance ends there! * Since the film talks of the two nations vis-à-vis the nationalities of the lovers, don’t expect inflammatory dialogues, jingoism or Pak-bashing kind of situations. In VEER-ZAARA, an Indian youth praises a Pakistani mother, while a Pakistani jailor, in a packed courtroom, heaps lavish praises on an Indian convict. The relations between the two nations have improved since the past few months and a film like VEER-ZAARA would only cement the relations further! VEER-ZAARA is the story of an Indian man, Veer Pratap Singh [Shah Rukh Khan] and a Pakistani woman, Zaara Hayaat Khan [Preity Zinta]. Squadron Leader Veer Pratap Singh is a rescue pilot with the Indian Air Force. A caring person, Veer goes out of his way to help someone in crisis. Whilst on duty, he comes across Zaara, the daughter of an influential Pakistani politician [Boman Irani]. A simple girl by nature, Zaara is happy to marry the man of her parent’s choice, Raza [Manoj Bajpai]. She has come to India to fulfil her surrogate Hindu mother’s [Zohra Segal] last wish: To immerse her ashes in the holy river. But the bus in which she is travelling meets with an accident. It is at this point that she meets Veer. Their initial friendship starts off on a sour note, but before they realize it, they fall in love. Veer also takes this opportunity to show Zaara the place where he grew up [Punjab]. His uncle [Amitabh Bachchan] and aunt [Hema Malini], who have raised Veer [he’s an orphan], also develop a strong liking for Zaara. But before Veer could express his love, walks in Raza, who has just landed from Lahore in search of Zaara. While in Lahore, Zaara finds it difficult to forget Veer. Her maid Shabbo [Divya Dutta] calls Veer in India and explains the situation. Veer gives up his job and arrives in Lahore. He meets Zaara in the presence of her family and prospective in-laws. However, the wedding between Raza and Zaara takes place, while Veer is arrested by the Pakistani police on charges of being a spy. Twenty two years later, Saamiya Siddiqui [Rani Mukerji], a Pakistani lawyer, comes to his rescue. She meets an ageing Veer Pratap Singh for the first time. He has languished in a Pakistan jail cell for 22 years and has spoken to none. Why has Veer been silent for 22 years? Where is Zaara? Saamiya takes it upon herself to find the truth about this man. A mature love story, with characters standing out more than the opulent sets [unlike most Bollywood productions], VEER-ZAARA narrates a story that’s quite novel. Just when you think that the story would turn predictable comes a twist and everything changes. In a way, VEER-ZAARA does follow the same path as DULWALE DULHANIYA LE JAYENGE. Boy meets girl, they fall in love, the girl is already engaged, the boy reaches the girl’s country to bring her back, the parental opposition that ensues… But there’s more in VEER-ZAARA. The backdrop of Pakistan gives the film a new look, a new color altogether. VEER-ZAARA starts off as a routine love story. There are half-a-dozen songs in the first half itself. But there’s meat in the script. The screenplay never lets you down. Just when you think that the story is about to stagnate, you’re introduced to two more characters [Amitabh, Hema]. And later Manoj Bajpai. The actual drama takes place in the post-interval portions. The scene at the mosque – when SRK and Zaara meet again, right under everyone’s watchful eyes – is an indicator of excellent writing and exceptional execution. The goings-on continue to gather momentum, till the pre-climax. And with Zaara’s re-appearance in the film, the story again takes a new turn. However, the climax – a happy ending – could’ve been better thought of. There was scope for so much drama in the finale, but a somewhat predictable end does dilute the impact. Besides, incorporating a song in the courtroom itself [‘Tere Liye’] looks weird. Director Yash Chopra proves yet again that he’s a master storyteller. Attempting a film of epic proportions is one thing and doing full justice to it, another. VEER-ZAARA proves that the Gen X directors have so much to learn from our peers. Mainly about effective story-telling. Even when it comes to drama, there’s none to touch Chopra. The sequence when Kiron Kher meets SRK at Divya Dutta’s house is outstanding. Ditto for the scene when Rani tells Akhilendra Mishra not to refer to SRK as ‘Qaidi No. 786’. Also, the scene in the courtroom, when Rani addresses Anupam Kher by another name, is fantastic. Aditya Chopra’s writing is another exceptional aspect. The twists and turns in the plot catch the viewer unaware all the while. The dialogues, also penned by Aditya, are outstanding. However, the dialogues in Punjabi could’ve been toned down slightly. Madan Mohan’s music relies on melody and the tunes fit the story like gloves. Of the songs, ‘Main Yahan Hoon’, ‘Aisa Des Hai Mera’, ‘Lodi’ and ‘Aaya Tere Dar Pe’ are the pick of the lot. The lyrical value of all songs [Javed Akhtar] is rich. Cinematography [Anil Mehta] is at par with any international product. The sets [Sharmishta Roy], especially the portions depicting Pakistan, are authentic to the core. The visual effects [Tata Elxsi] are too good, especially the morphing. VEER-ZAARA is another feather in SRK’s well decorated cap. The actor enacts the challenging role with amazing ease, putting his best foot forward and emerging trumps. It would indeed be difficult to imagine any other actor essaying the two diverse parts. Simply unforgettable! Preity Zinta enacts the part with complete precision. Although her part doesn’t really demand histrionics, she carries off her role with elegance. Rani Mukerji is a scene-stealer. The actress takes giant strides with this role, relying completely on her expressions to do her job. Amitabh Bachchan is lovable. Ditto for Hema Malini, who catch the viewer unaware when they appear in the plot. Manoj Bajpai is fantastic, especially in the scene when he confronts SRK while he is being interrogated. Kiron Kher is outstanding yet again. Boman Irani proves that he’s a matchless performer. Divya Dutta is simply amazing. Anupam Kher is quite effective. Zohra Segal and Akhilendra Mishra are adequate. On the whole, VEER-ZAARA is a winner all the way – in terms of direction, scripting, music, performances… The film will sweep the box-office like a hurricane and set new records in days to come. A sure-shot blockbuster! Rating:- * * * * ½. |

A disappointing story. The intro of the movie is a song itself, picturized on Veer (Shah Rukh Khan). It was a perfect start? an average composition but compensated by beautiful picturization and the energetic Veer. Then the old Veer (50+) is shown who is very weak, like the story of this film,in the Pakistani prison. Then Saamiya (rani) makes attempts to talk to him. Veer has not spoken for the past 22 yrs?due to certain reason (which is quite funny). But anyway, as expected Veer narrates his Dhuk bari kahhani to Saamiya. Veer, a Squadron leader, rescues people. Once Zaara(Priety) , a Pakistani girl who has come to India to fulfill her Bebe's wish of immersing her ashes in her hometown, lands up in a difficulty, as expected Veer saves her and since zaraa finds it difficult to complete her mission, Veer helps her. As expected Veer falls in love with Zaara?as if there are shortage of beautiful ladies in India. But Zaara has to go and marry Manoj (sorry! Don't remember his screen name). Enough of DDLG?yash uncle!!! But Veer visits Pakistan to conquer his love and ends up in Jail. But why? Don't want to spoil?go and see yourself?funny reason...atleast for me! Now after 22 years, Saamiya wants to discover the truth and get Veer released, find know bouts of Zaraa and reunite them. To know how she does it checks out in theatres! Avoid Piracy...lol?see who's telling it?? I found the story pretty boring? Gone are the days when our Hero single handedly manages to win his love, now yash uncle wants an outsider to help the Hero to win his love. The first half was nice and romantic?but it's the second half especially the last hour was really boring. Even in the first half Veer- Saamiya interactions were little bit slow. Even though there are flaws in the film, it is still enjoyable and will be liked by the audience! |

Oppicial review from critics... Rating: **** “Which era do these people belong to!” Rani Mukherjee exclaims about the Pakistani girl and the Indian man who live with the IDEA of love for 22 years. Old yet passionate, frail yet sublime, the estranged lovers in Yash Chopra’s eagerly awaited film are no ordinary love-birds. Their body language, demeanour, speech and attitude hark back to an era when emotions were hallmarks of human nature, not designer-thingummys to be used as and when required in bubblegum concoctions that masquerade as romantic musicals in our wretched times. By the time the utterly evocative theme song about two inseparable souls torn apart by fate comes on, we’re so enamoured of Yash Chopra’s pristine pastel and yet striking passions that we surrender entirely and unquestioningly to his prescription of romantic passion. Just when we thought heartwarming tales of undying love were a dying art-form, Veer-Zaara comes along. It is the sort of sublimely designed, delicately threaded romantic fable that comes once in a while to win hearts and influence people. That it would succeed in doing so is almost a foregone conclusion. After all, a film directed by Yash Chopra is no ordinary event. Veer-Zaara is a little more extraordinary than we expect it to be. While telling a fluent story about a love that cuts captivatingly across the Indo-Pak wire fence, Yash Chopra, for the first time in his romantic oeuvre, introduces ideas that transcend romance and other intimate preoccuations. Through the strong and very memorable character of the rookie lawyer Samiya (Rani Mukherjee), ideas on female literacy and women’s empowerment seep into the narrative with nourishing niftiness. Nothing about the romance between the Indian airforce pilot and the Pakistani aristocratic girl is over-stated. There are no raised voices (even when the heroine’s dad scolds her, he does it sotto voce). There's no screaming, no attention-getting tactics- and yet the films gets it- all of our attention, though it takes a bit of time to get over the longish bits of Punjabi dialogues among Amitabh Bachchan (playing Khan’s prankish old man), Hema Malini (hopelessly out of her depths in the robust Punjabi milieu), Khan and Zinta. Once the slight hiccups are done, it’s as simple as falling in love for us to get into the timeless grooves and gorgeous rhythms replicating and relocating the romance of infinite resonances into an obtainable and accessible format. Veer-Zaara builds its case for the protagonists’ unbreakable bonding through a neo-classical blend of song and emotion. Chopra unleashes a temperate tidal wave of feelings that swim teasingly just beneath the surface. The surge of love between two people belonging to entirely different cultures and lands, is collected into a quaint and quivering collage of memory and melody. The narration moves at its own melodious volition. The music and songs by the late Madan Mohan and the profound yet simple poetry of Javed Akhtar supplement the melody of romance with enchanting articulations of hearts that know not why they love and sing. They just do. The narration is constructed as a celebration rather than a lament on lost love. No matter how deep the hurt and how prolonged the separation between the lovers, there’s always the melody playing a deeply-felt song. We simply sink into the sounds of romance. In terms of the space employed to cover many decades in the lovers’ lives, Veer-Zaara is remarkably equipped to qualify as an outstanding romantic musical. Whether it’s Pakistani lawyer Rani Mukherjee in recreative conversation with the Indian prisoner languishing in jail for crimes he never committed, or the way the supple stretches in the courtroom are used for the Khan-Zinta reunion song, Chopra proves himself a master storyteller with an incredible grip over his narrative. He has terrific help from cameraman Anil Mehta who beautifies the rugged rural landscape without making it appear fairytale in proportion. Khan and Zinta fill the splendid rustic spaces with sounds of love. Many moments in the screenplay stay with us long after the gasp-inducing symbolic union of the India and Pakistan as Veer and Zaara walk into what Chopra hopefully sees as a new beginning in the relations between the two countries. But the protagonists’ geopolitical credentials never appear forced or laboured. Veer and Zara are who they are. In sequences such as the one where Veer meets Zara’s fiancé (Manoj Bajpai) on the railway station, or when Zara’s mother(the brilliantly passionate Kirron Kher) implores Veer to give back her daughter for the sake of the family honour, are potentially clichéd situtuations converted into a celebration of life’s most cherishable experience through the writer’s imagination. The writing skills imparted to the story of ‘forbidden’ love are immense, and so’s the performance level of the cast. Rani Mukherjee’s deeply studied utterly heroic part of the activist–lawyer is uplifting. Once again Shah Rukh Khan confers his charismatic personality on a role that has many shades of emotions clumped into a captivating clasp of screen heroism. His performance as the old man in the courtroom where after being absolved of all crimes he reads out a poem, is rabble rousing. And those who thought Preity Zinta couldn’t be rustic and earthy, better watch how she slips into Zaara’s slippers, imparting a coltish seductiveness to the part. Kirron Kher, Divya Dutta and Manoj Bajpai bring tremendous feelings to the supporting parts. But the director’s true allies in this creative endeavour are the photography and music. The use of spatial harmony in the haunting climactic song Tere liye is a measure of Yash Chopra’s power and skills of narration. The caliber of the late Madan Mohan’s music is certainly high-grade. Many scenes are elevated by the quality of music. Veer–Zaara is a very simple story of immense nobility and idealism. Its contours are fleshed out with the most precious colours of life to complete a picture which is at once symmetrical and sublime, sweet tender and yet secreting a core of strength and conviction that takes it beyond the conventional romantic musicals.
