LOL PF - elementary, my dear watson !! was thinking of starting discusison on 2001 just to drag you out of the woods. sure mama, content wise one's fav movie varies. there was a hawa about citizen kane for some years in the cinema world, but i have also seen ppl who DONT think it's the greatest movie ever. it was sort of a groupthink btw. anyways, ur recos are also quite interesting. I for one am amazed at orson welles' ability, man. |

Gud movie.. My fav scene is the opening scene of the movie. Martin sheen who just returned from a war, doing nothing at home. He looses his wife for divorce and is just waiting for another war. That scene is pretty much the theme of the movie for me. The heart of darkness in war |

chalam: to begin with... i had a doubt if u were NEEE from IBDB..ur Nth repetition of the statement "I would even put our own sankarabharanam quite high and in strong reckoning." confirmed my doubt..(sarcasm not intended) how r u doing buddy? quote: I bet the panel of experts prolly had western guys mostly. not only western guys mama..but great directors and film critics from all over the world praise this movie.. Infact i have seen citizen kane being mentioned in many foreign films..by renowned directors like ingmar bergman, francois trauffet etc.. our own satyajit ray was full of praises for this movie.. this movie's theme and its storytelling inspired many.. in citizen kane..the story of kane is told in flash-backs..like the point of view of various persons..about his life.. in akira's RASHOMON..a murder is told in flashback from the point of view of 4 persons.. even here u would be a little confused by their versions and wouldn't finally rememeber the exact version of each person..the audience aren't told exactly what happened in the forest before and after the murder.. if u take shayam benegal's zubeidaa..the life of zubeidaa is told in flashback from the point of view of various persons..and the real version is left to the imagination of the audience.. and the list goes on... CK is definetely the #1 pathbreaking movie of all time in terms of technique and storytelling mama.. and regrading the content ..i think the CONTENT part differs from person to person kadha.. BTW.. even one of my close friends loves shawshank redemption(SR) above everything else in movies and recently bought the dvd and told me this news atleast 5 times that he bought the first dvd in his life and its SR.. and i would personally rate bicycle thief one of the best in terms of content.. |

ofcourse, I would strongly contest that stmnt hustler. I bet the panel of experts prolly had western guys mostly. it was surely a 'firsts' movie in many respects but that alone cannot make it the 'best' movie of all time. if one were to go by 'content', shawshank can give a tough fight, also seven samurai. I would even put our own sankarabharanam quite high and in strong reckoning. one amazing thing about kane is that when you watch the movie, everything seems to flow so naturally but when yuo try to recollect the scenes, it all seems jumbled up. quite difficult to remember what scene follows what. all this from a 25 year old guy directing his first movie. too good.

citizen kane is all time number one movie in the hollywood history. A panel of directors from all the world rated that movie as the best movie ever made in the history of cinema. |

if anyone has not seen citizen kane yet, you should see it. flashback, photography technique, makeup, dialogue everything was bloody new for 1941 cinema. ivala choosthe ivanni goppaga undakapovachu but for that age, it was path breaking. also, some of the camera movements are amazing.

yeah jamadagni, you should watch it just cuz this was done somewherwe in 1919 ( not sure, imdb might have more info - I watched this 6 years back ) and it would be unbelievable. this film was like a text book for editing. some sergei guy was the director/editor. movies that changed the face of world cinema lo idi okati anukunta technique wise. then ofcourse citizen kane undane undi.

Based on the historical events the movie tells the story of a riot at the battleship Potemkin. What started as a protest strike when the crew was given rotten meat for dinner ended in a riot. The sailors raised the red flag and tried to ignite the revolution in their home port Odessa CHIRU RULES |

Nee, Very informative! I liked it! Chaalaa thelusukunnaanu!! Yaa, the movie also says that he was the first person outside the Ford Family to become the president of the company( Ford Motors)!! It also chronicles his role in the Vietnam war, his interactions with Fidel Castro, Robert Kennedy etc! This movie can easily be compared with The Trials of Henry Kissinger!!

Jamadagni: how was 'fog of war' ? I am interested in this one. actually mcnamara had a much bigger role than just the missile crisis. he was a doyen of defence policy in this country, a human IBM m/c he was often called for his obsession with numbers. He was in the admin during the bay of pigs invasion, missile crisis, viet war and his later urging to withdraw, his nuclear strategy, defence strategies. he heralded many US policies that are being followed even today in terms of how wars should be fought etc. rumsfeld tried to do a mcnamara with his 'shock and awe' campaign in iraq but fell flat on his face. Gen Zinni proved right. anyways, how was the movie in terms of characterization etc.
