The same artice says "Whether or not the new Andhra Pradesh government eventually resumes power tariff reform, bank officials are also digesting two important lessons. The first is to avoid associating its programmes with any politician. "It was a mistanke for the bank to link its programme so closely to Mr. Naidu-this is a democracy,"' said an Indian official. Jayaprakash Narayan, head of Lok Satta, a prominent non-governmental organization in Hyd, capital of AP, and a critic of the Bank says THE DEBATE IS HOW RO DEFINE REFORM, NOT WHETHER TO PURSUE IT. "THERE IS NO EVIDENCE TO SHOW THST INDIA'S VOTERS WERE REJECTING REFORM AS SUCH" said Mr. Narayan. "What we can point to is a deep impatience with incumbent governments of what ever party for reforms to be made much broader and more inclusive". ALMOST EVERY PARTY IN iNDIA, INCLUDING mR.sINGH'S CONGRESS AND EVEN with notable caveats, the Communist bloc, ARE IN FAVOR OF CONTINUED REFORM" |

Jamadagni: what you say is true to some extent. kaani democracy lo 'yatha praja thatha raaja' anthe. mana system lo implementation problems pichaga unnai. the basic pillars of democracy like law and order, judiciary veetini mundu maarchali, they should become independent. I think public, on a broad scale understands that anything free is not good for anyone. but then govt has to step in at some points and do its duty of alleviating problems, some govts do it well and some do not do it well. naidu approach manchide kaani communicate cheyyeleka poyadu. anyways, this will end up as long discussion I guess if anyone has enthu. I would just like to say we have a strong society but a very weak polity. public has to take more responsibility and make the politicians accountable. they can do that only when they think they are safe doing so. malla daniki police lu impartial ayyundali. sarle, it's a vicious circle and I am just rambling, will stop.

iam not comparing development of US to India. iam not commenting either on what we achieved since independece. The only thing i am blaming is our own politicians who lacked the vision. Thats it. any way i dont discuss much politics in DBs (very rarely) so i am out

anduke mama naku ikkada politicians nachhutaru. THey have vision. irrespective of being corrupt etc., they did very very good with regard to infrastructure and worked well on basic eminities. iam not supporting the things or anything here but the vision. Indian politicians clearely lacked the vision and no wonder we never had a statesman level politician.

Free power ivvadam ilaanti booku policies thoonee saripooya unna punyakaalamanthaaa..... "Indian states, including Andhra Pradesh spend on average 90 percent of their budgets oninterest payments and civil servant's salaries and pensions. ThIS leaves almost nothing for primary education, roads and healthcare. Much of the remaining 10 percent is frittered away on subsidies to those who least need them, including richer farmers, loss making public sector enterprises and fertiliser producers. INFACT FREE ELECTRICITY AMOUNTS TO A NET TRANSFER OF WEALTH FROM POOR TO LESS POOR FARMERS: ELECTRIC PUMPS GET OVERUSED AND THE WATER TABLE FALLS" "THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS FREE POWEr. The cost is borne through a lowering of the water table, whichhits the poor hardest because they can't afford pumps, through lower investment spending on primary education andhealthcare, and through less reliable power supply to everybody since it is financially self defeating." India's polls teach world bank a lesson Edward Luce, Financial times,May 27 2004! Y.S.R and Jayalalitha punyaamaa antu Worldbank funds stop ayyipooyayi. No wonder Man Mohan is asking his hyderabadi partymen to "dilute" their election promises. Hanuman/Jamadagni |
