One hoped that Megastar Chiranjeevij’s SHANKERDADA MBBS would set new records and also would end gloom in the film industry. It was meant to take a flying start and the film behaved exactly the way one expected it to in the first week. Initial reports indicated that it would break all the records. The film has really garnered unprecedented collections in the first week. But now, the film is not a ‘profit’ venture in many areas. From the second week it went south way. Why did this happen? Well, damn the reviewers and hype-makers. In truth, the film is nowhere the original nor it is entertaining. Usually, Chiru’s films will have good music. But in SD MBBS, music was the low point. And there is no glamour quotient. Dialogues were routine. Even the so-called ‘Chiru’s English dialogues’ are not that good and very few. At the most, he speaks only five times in ‘talk like Shanker Dada English’ (as Gemini TV bombarding). So the usual first week hype didn’t sustain when non-fans started coming to theaters. As Chiranjeevi said in the film, ‘floor pasting is not festival’ (his English word for Telugu proverb, “Illu Alakagane Panduga Kadu”) means initial hype doesn’t fetch record breaking collections.
