RajRao says India does not have any history of sufficient number of tsunamis, hitting the coast to create a tsunami database. Tsunamis are generated by gquakes of high intesnsitey and they travel at a speed of 1200 km per hour.

RajRao says IMB is the nodal agency to monitor and inform public and other agencies of occurance of earthquake in the Indian region. Quake prediction is not an exact science

RajRao says Different international agencies have their own network of seismic stations.Estimates based on these networks may differ slightly.
freaking asks What can we do to save lives during such calamities?
RajRao says If a full-fleged seismic prediction system is put in place, ( such systems exist in the Pacific) for the Indian region, prediction of tsunamis one to two hours in advance can be done. This will also help reduce the extent the damage.
