M F Hussain has withdrawn his film Meenaxi - A Tale of Three Cities from theatres after the All India Ulema Conference objected to lyrics of one of the film's songs.
"I have told my sole distributor Yash Chopra to withdraw the film from public shows from all over the country with immediate effect," Hussain said.
"Since I have not sold the film to anyone, I would like to stop screening of the film," he said.
The Council had demanded an immediate ban on the song Noorun-ala-Noor, saying these words are used in the Quran to describe the divine beauty of God.
They claimed that the song had hurt the sentiments of the Muslims. (with PTI inputs)
