It takes a lot to make a fullhyd.com reviewer walk out of a theater before the film ends. Naa Alludu is so bad, you wouldn't watch it even if you were 100% sure that no one would ever find out. With a plot that went out of fashion even before God decided to create the universe, so many clichés that you need a special computer to keep track of them, and such lousy humor that even the list of ingredients on a tube of Fair & Lovely seems more funny, this film looks like it was made just to complete making it.
The flick is the old arrogant mom-in-law � smartass son-in-law schtick, innovated upon to destroy any little potential it has left. Bhanumati Devi (Ramyakrishna) is a super-rich industrialist with enough money to buy longer clothes for her 2 daughters, or at least to give them proper education so that they don't accept every stupid role that comes their way.
Now among successful movies in this genre, Attaku Yamudu Ammayiki Mogudu had a brilliant cameo in inebriation by Chiranjeevi that sweeps Vijayashanti off her feet, and Coolie No. 1 and Gharana Mogudu took the length of whole films for their lead ladies to be convinced that the men they were married to were indeed worthy of them. Naa Alludu has 2 women who are so dumb about their reasons for falling love, it's a surprise they didn't marry the first man they met after they turned, oh, 6.
Anyway, Bhanumathi runs into Karthik (NTR), a superhero who makes his entry by throwing a piece of iron between 2 cars and causing the women driving them, the daughters of Bhanumathi, to get hurled into a lake. If you are thinking of criticising that scene saying it can happen only in illogical Telugu films, what's wrong with you? How many times haven't you seen similar things in The Tom And Jerry Show and enjoyed it thoroughly? It's these double-standards of hypocritical people like you that bring a bad name to all Telugu people.
Karthik is soon insulted by Bhanumathi for this, and so he challenges her that he will become richer than her in just 24 hours by praying to God. Okay, he doesn't actually say that, but compared to what he does, that seems simpler. He tells her, in front of her daughters, that he will marry one of them and inherit all the wealth. He doesn't specify which daughter, but both are equally dumb and 100% interchangeable, so it doesn't matter. If you are evaluating his rationale for choosing his future life's partner, cool, you're thinking and all! And if you're wondering that marrying a daughter doesn't guarantee inheritance, you're missing the bigger picture. We did, too.
So Karthik does various things to make Meghana (Shreya) fall in love with him, which may seem completely implausible at first, but, when you think about it, have indeed been done in the past, by people like Lord Krishna � who, as everyone who made this film will tell you, was an incarnation of NTR. Some people will say that NTR Junior constantly referring to his grandfather is clever tactics to play to the masses. Other people will say that it shows a lack of self-worth. We at fullhyd.com will just continue with this review and get done with it.
Now there's another NTR Junior called Muruga, a long-lost twin of Karthik and an unabashed imitator of Rajnikanth. Bhanumathi hires him to keep Karthik at bay, but he actually kills Karthik. Why? Is Karthik really dead? Will Shreya die of a broken heart? Will Bhanumathi go unpunished? We really can't answer these questions, since we walked out the theater with a good half-hour left. Along with maybe a 100 persons by then.
The horrible movie-making and tacky production values apart, the film stands out for its pandering to Ramya Krishna's looks, almost if it were making up to her for casting her as a mom-in-law. The worst part is the framing of the dynamics between the hero and his mother-in-law in physical/sexual overtones. There's a full song where Ramya Krishna, Shreya and Genelia brazenly dance together as equals with NTR Junior. Telugu/Indian social structure reveres a mother-in-law as a mother herself. Just what were these guys doing? Just what are the censors doing? |
