As each day passes, the mystery over the involvement of film actor Balakrishna, son of NTR is growing by the hour. Reports are coming from all over the state that the general public has not taken kindly to this naked display of money power, muscle power and caste power by the accused Balakrishna.
As the mystery grows over the conflicting testimony given by the accused, his wife and the cleaning of evidence, disappearance of the house servants, the failure of CARE hospital authorities to notify the police has enraged the top police officials and the general public. Even some fans that are sympathetic to Balakrishna in the normal circumstances find it galling that their hero who dies in films protecting the law is actually evading the law in real life. Even the industry elders did not cover themselves with glory by involving in a criminal issue, feels the public. Also, the star’s fan associations are the receiving end of the public ire.
It is reliably learnt that the police has secured vital and necessary clues to prove that the actor fired the shots in rage, not in self-defense as he is claiming. They feel it is a fool proof case that will stand in court. The police is finishing the formalities of taking statements from the accused and the victims before they reveal their evidence in court.
There is a growing feeling among the public that two sets of laws are operating in the state, one for the common man on the street and another one for the rich and the powerful. There is also growing pressure from the public on the recently elected Congress government not to let the film star evade the law. Even some fans associations of the actor are questioning the actions of the star in real life. They are extremely disappointed that their hero is hiding in the hospital instead of facing the law bravely. While some fans believe he was framed, as many fans of the star believe that he indeed committed the crime and they feel sorry for him.
As for the public, they strongly believe that the law should take it’s course without the involvement of other actors and mediators.

I went to to Balakrishna’s house and Suresh joined us later. We were sitting in the office room and discussing Lakshmi-narasimha. There was an agrument and Balakrishna whipped out a .32 revolver and shot at Suresh. I tried to stop him by catching his hand but got shot.

I was working in the kitchen. Suddenly I heard shouting. When I came to the office I saw Suresh and Satyanarayana attacking my husband. In an act of self-defence my husband might have shot at them. Suresh ran out of the house. I asked our driver Kanakaiah to admit Satyanarayana in the hospital.
He fell down after attack
I heard the firing and ran inside to see Suresh and Satyanara-yana in a pool of blood. After being injured by Suresh, Bala-krishna fell unconcious. I infor-med Care Hospital doctors who came and took him to hospital.

Hyderabad, June 6: Balakrishna wanted producer Bellamkonda Suresh to pay compensation to the family of four of his fans who committed suicide after losing bets on his film Lakshminarasimha.
Balakrishna told the police in his confessional statement on Saturday that Suresh had “hurt his ego” and insulting his fans who lost everything on the bets. He also said that he fired only one bullet and could not remember firing the five other rounds. Commissioner of Police R P Singh told Deccan Chronicle that four fans of Balakrishna had committed suicide after they lost lakhs after betting on his film.
“Balakrishna said the fans had bet on the number of centres that would screen the film for 100 days,” Singh said, quoting the star. Suresh promised Balakrishna that the film would be screened at 287 centres for 100 days but he released Lakshminarasimha only in 85 centres.”
“Balakrishna told us that he asked Suresh to pay at least Rs 2.5 lakh to the family of the fans, which he refused. Suresh told Balakrishna, “Finance is important but not fans’. Suresh also used some deragatory words,” Singh said. “This hurt the ego of Balakrishna. The actor told us that he fired at Suresh as an act of self-defence when Suresh attacked him with a paper knife,” said Singh.

Detained Balakrishna still under ‘Care’
Hyderabad, June 6: Amidst great secrecy and fears of an attack by fans, police whisked shooting star Nandamuri Balakrishna to a magistrate at about 3.45 am on Sunday. The magistrate ordered that the star be produced in court on Monday morning. Balakrishna was taken back to Care hospital on his own request.
Police arrested Balakrishna around 3.20 am after they received information that thousands of fans would storm the city to prevent his arrest. The arrest came an hour after he confessed to West Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police N Sanjay that he shot producer Bellamkonda Suresh, who attacked him with a paper knife.
Police Commissioner R P Singh said Balakrishna would be examined by government doctors, and that the police would oppose any plea for bail made by the film star.
Cops unconvinced
But the police seemed reluctant to take his self-defence theory at face value, Commissioner Singh said Balakrishna had suffered only a small incision on the index finger of his right hand. “A paper knife may cause that injury. we can’t deny that. But the police as such won’t accept the self defence theory,” he said.
“As there was screening of evidence (evidence was sought to be removed) and we are not informed about the incident there is no scope for the self-defence theory. Even the statement of (astrologer) Satyanarayana Choudary eliminates the self-defence theory,” said Singh. Choudary has told the police that Balakrishna had opened fire at Suresh, and he himself was injured when he tried to intervene.
Police took Balakrishna through the rear door of Care hospital at Banjara Hills and produced him at the house of fifth metropolitan magistrate M Gandhi at Marredpally around 3.45 am. Later he was readmitted to Care Hospital as per the directions of the magistrate.
Singh said that the quick arrest was effected after they got information from intelligence sources that Balakrishna’s friends and relatives were mobilising thousands of fans from various parts of the State. “It was not intentional. We had information of the mobilisation of fans and ample evidence including the statement of Satyanarayana was collected confirming Balakrishna’s involvement, we effected the arrest,” Singh said.
“The magistrate asked Balakrishna to get admitted to Gandhi Hospital. Balakrishna requested that he be readmitted to Care. The magistrate obliged him and directed us to produce him in court on Monday,” Singh said, adding that Balakrishna will be produced in the Fifth Metropolitan Magistrate court on Monday morning. He said that a team of government doctors would examine the health condition of Balakrishna.
Sources said the possibilities of Balakrishna being remanded to judicial custody at Chanchalguda or Charlapally jail were remote since he was likely to be given permission to be admitted in Care on health grounds. Balakrishna has decided to file a bail petition in the court on Monday. Singh said the police would oppose the bail petition.
“If at all after the trial he is proved guilty, the law says he may be punished for a minimum of three years to ten years under section 307 IPC and Arms Act,” said Singh. Mediapersons staged protest at Care for keeping them in the dark and not allowing them to photograph Balakrishna.
