thanx...AW mama .....for the link... 2weeklo full losslu annadu...50days taruvatha hit aa ani question marklu pettadu..kaani facts r facts...nijam oppukoleka tappaledhu... The hungama is over and the verdict is clear and louder “Sankar Dada MBBS” is a hit movie but not as it is expected. Well, it’s time for all the movie freaks to analyze about this much-hyped product over all performance so far. Here are the parameters defined for SankarDada to measure its performance. Let’s talk one by one and see how far they are close to the final judgement given by Telugu people. Beginning Dada’s beginning was an astonishing. Chiranjeevi was riding high with the stupendous success of his previous films “Indra” and “Tagore”. Though Anji didn’t fare as expected, it hadn’t damage megastar’s image. Neither fans were upset with its mediocre performance. Parallel to this, Munnabhai MBBS was creating wonders at the box-office and the news was that Chiru’s doing its remake. This itself enough to intensify the common audience expectations. When Tagore was in making, hardly people knew about its original (Ramana in Tamil). Where as here, it’s not the case. Munnabhai was widely watched across the major cities in AP. Gemini TV who had delivered couple of super hit movies in the past took the responsibility of making this movie in all south Indian languages with stars like Chiranjeevi and Kamal. Obviously, one would feel that this film would set fire at the box-office when it is released. Over all, beginning gained more attention in the public due to the fact that it’s a chiranjeevi movie. Casting The strength in Munnabhai’s success was it’s galore of characters and artistes. All of them together offered an extensive entertainment to the audience. Dean, ATM, Doctor, his father, sales executive cum patient were few sensible characters other than Munnabhai perfectly blended with the script and delivered at most. When it comes to Sankar Dada, Srikanth may not have suited the ATM character well. But speaking the truth, hardly we have people in Tollywood who can portray the character more than what Srikanth done. Initial choice was Raviteja according to the grapevine. Very few may think that RaviTeja would have performed much better than Srikanth. Without having a doubt, one can say that Paresh was a best fit. Since it’s a chiranjeevi movie, one hardly bothers about the other characters and artistes. Coming to story department, paruchuri brothers who have enough experience to handle own makes/free makes/re-makes were definitely a plus to the film that knows the mass pulse very well. There were hardly any scenes I original version that highlighted the mass appeal (if at all any) in Sanjaydutt. Paruchuri did their homework well and came out with hilarious dialogues cum excellent mannerism for Sankar dada character a.k.a. mega star. One can’t blame these brothers as they did give their best. Next comes, DeviSri Prasad, a young music director who rocked one and all with his energetic music in Khadgam, Manmadhudu, Varsham and Venky in the last 2 years. Since it’s a chiranjeevi movie, obviously music plays a vital role. Selecting Devi for this movie was not a bad choice, though, the out come was ordinary and couldn’t make an impact on audience as what Indra and Tagore did before. The team involved in the music sittings should take the morale responsibility for being failed to extract better output from this young director. Music was definitely a minus to SankarDada. One may ask that does munnabhai have good music in it? But the point to be noted is it’s a megastar movie. Reason being Chiranjeevi as a mega star in the hearts of people in AP is his dances apart from timing in comedy and roaring performance on screen. If dances are not good, movie is half gone. This was proved many times in the past. He entertained one and all Indra and Tagore with his extraordinary steps. Dance master Lawrence got instant fame with these steps. The same kind of dose was somehow missing in Dada as many of the fans (not hardcore) expressed openly. This is the one can be added to the negative aspects of the film. Last, but not least comes the direction department. Jayanth, who was in dark for quite sometime, hit back with LNS. One really wondered why chiru considered Jayanth immediately after LNS was a reasonable hit. As an analyst, we strongly feel that it’s a wrong choice (we know that we should have told this before the film’s release). What made us think that Jayanth was not a right choice is that only his success track. Jayanth had 3 hits earlier, but never got recognition as a mass director. He was always rated as a non-mass director. According to the trend in industry now, chiranjeevi has to make sure that he needs a director who can take his mass image to heights with his creativity. Unfortunately, Jayanth will not fall under this category. Sankar Dada had mixed set of people worked. Hence result is the same. Costing Production cost of any film is increasing day by day. Though producers claim that they are spending it for quality, people know very well about the quality that they will get finally. Sankar dada was finally made on the budget scale of 15-20 crores. The major share in this gone in paying remuneration and giving distribution rights etc. You could hardly see the richness on the canvas. Who should be blamed? It’s no ones fault other than producers. It is his confidence that made him to pay whatever is asked. Didn’t he think how much he is spending on this project and is it really required? He had no time to think about the buyers and collections that a super hit film would get it in AP with so and so prints. All he knows is, he is doing a film with chiranjeevi and he will be safe, as his returns will be guaranteed. This may have been plus to him but impacted in a negative way on the over all performance of this film. If he could have cut-shorted the cost, he has no need to go back to chiranjeevi to do a special song for a better run. Pricing There are 3 prices in market in certain conditions. One is manfacuter’s price (forget about wholesale, retail we are not talking that), second one is consumer’s price and third one is government fixed price. If you apply the same logic here, a consumer (typically a buyer) should have a proper math in place to decide whether his purchase is useful/fruitful to him or not. Let’s read this scenario. Assume that all distributors of this film decided not to buy this film for such a higher price, what producers could have done? Will he be able to release on his own? No. Because he clearly knows that getting break even of 20-25 crores is not an easy task for a regional film unless it is received extremely well by the public in spite of heavy competition. But, it didn’t happen. Because distributors have guts (or no brains) to buy star’s movies at an exorbitant figures. Though they are the ones can decide the price of the film, they appeared to have lost that opportunity and landed in trouble. This is the central point why Sankar Dada can’t be termed as a super hit like Indra or Tagore. If the business would have been restricted at 15-20 crores, there will be a big smile on their faces and Sankar dada remains as one of the industry hits. Timing Sankar dada was released as a Dussera gift to the audience. “At that time, none of the films were doing well at the box-office. So, timing was perfect.” If anyone says, it is not 100% correct. Irrespective of weather, competition and season, megastar movie will be well received in a grand style. There is no doubt in it. But, his film are also not exceptional to do not fare well if the film is not upto the standards or other films are better. One such example in the past is Shiva-Lankeswarudu. This time, it’s surprise hit of the year “Anand”. Anand definitely did the necessary damage in some urban areas with its strong presentation and excellent narration. Anand, ofourse taught a lesson to one and all in industry by saying that “content is important to make a film appealing, but not currency” Ending By this time Sankar Dada might be running towards 50 days in so and so centers. Hopefully, its post 50 days mark will bring more smiles on buyer’s faces. There is a tough competition ahead for the coming Sankranthi. We have to wait and watch how dada will run in the 2nd half. It’s good to know that an additional song is being added. Hope this imporves the situation better for Sanakar Dada. And we also wish the same for the sake of industry. Conclusion Whether it is chiranjeevi or Jr.NTR movie, it should boost up the morale in buyers but not making them bite the dust. Industry can’t be survived with records; it can be survived only with the revenue. Records may satisfy stars and fans, but not people just living on cinema. Tailpiece: In a nutshell, Sankar Dada is declared a HIT. Let’s see some real time examples how success (or the term ‘HIT’) is measured. 1) If Australia scores 400 in a one-day international against India, then it’s BIG target for India. According to one day standards chasing 400 in 50 overs is not an easy target. If India scores only 385, though it loses to Aussies, it’s definitely a winner among spectators. It’s the case with Sankar Dada. Whoever fault it is, gaining 25 crores as a break-even is not a simple task. Even if you come close to the target, definitely you are a winner. But Megastar once again proved that his charisma could make it work. Trade pundits reported that SD crossed 25 cr figure recently and running to make profits. 2) In 1989&91 General elections, BJP had won 189,161 seats respectively out of 529 Loksabha seats. Speaking the truth, it didn’t even win the necessary majority to form the government.. As Karna has many reasons for his death, so many other factors caused BJP not to obtain the absolute majority. One such example is Rajiv Gandhi’s death affected the 2nd phase of the elections and BJP lost heavily by sympathy vote bank. But the kind of positive feel that it had generated got an instant hit talk, and been rated as a clear winner among the audience. Likewise so many hurdle for sankar Dada in terms of piracy, heavy budget, and comparison with Munniabhai. In spite of all, still it managed to achieve the magical figure of 25 crores. A movie called “Thrishoolam’ was released way back in 1983. It collected amazingly in uttara Andhra region and some parts of Guntur, Krishna districts. But elsewhere it was declared flop. Recently, Arjun starrer “Puttimtiki raa chelli” fared very well in B&C centres and in rest bite the dust. It was declared a hit. Mahesh starrer “Nijam” collected well initially, thanks to the pre-release hype it created, but can’t be called as a winner as it lost fame and name among audience. Sankar Dada doesn’t belong to any of the above genre, which can be safely said a “good HIT”.
