vamsee mama dell install emi pedda thop emi kaadu mama... it sucks infact.. (sorry thikmak mama to say tis)

today i got to do some work otherwise i would have told a way to do it in chat.. so posting it here in simple steps..

-> take backup of the data to an external disk..
-> install fresh OS by selecting delete all partitions and by creating a fresh new partition for OS and other critical apps.. Say 10 Gig at most.
--> Bring the system up with basic OS
-> install all Dell drivers and Apps needed for u (dell gives lot of crap.. dont go for everything choose from it)
--> Install your company/specific apps on new Partition let us say D: (with 10 gig) (do it from disk manager in administrative tools {i assume u know all this, jsut to make sure} )
--> Create another partition with rest of the unpartitioned space let us say E: and keep all ur data in this drive.

---> keep a bakcup copy of all ur critical data on a CD or external disk since now a days HDDs are crashing like anything.. 2 days back one more Dell HDD died on my friend. :-)

if u have specific qns.. mail me at nalanda_kiranam at yahoo

adaware raavtam kaadu mama: adaware detects the cookies/files installed by the browser. So fire wall can not stop this until u set to filter all cookies.. But we dont do that.. we enable cookies...

These spyware/data miners use live cookies that gather ur browser cache and send data to their relay servers for analysis.. so firewall can not help in this case since it sends through port 80 (http).

basically firewall is used to block ports and internet traffic other than standard allowed ports for ftp, telnet, http.

mama

if it is dell pre installed OS.. that guy gives it all in a single partition.. use partition magic tool to make a partition from live partition..

otherwise go for clean install by formatting and partitioning as suggested by thikmak maaya..

mama if u have more than 1 partitions then I would suggest u go for a Clean install!!! ee Uninstalling /removing may create problems later on the programs u may lose would be the ones u installed SP-2...
if u havent installed anything u r not gonna lose anything!!

remove SP2 will take u to SP1 days binaries.. so u dont have to do anything for that.. just remove SP2.. both are same..

(before installing SP2.. windows keeps a copy of OS binaries for backup.. it just brings them back to primary copy now)

Yeah Tunts I agree with u!! the only problem with this is the AV patches are generally a week late!! I mean if there is a worm/virus on spree and if NAV comes up with the AV in 2 days AVG takes atleast 1 week thats the only difference!!! otherwise AVG is also good!!!
