Newark to Mumbai is non-stop. There is a 2 hr break in Paris but you are not allowed to get down.
last year i flew by AI from Newark to Hyd. I was waiting to get off in Paris during the break to light up the cigarette. They didn't let me out. I literally had an argument with one of the cleaning crews who looked like an Indian and argued that they are discriminating against smokers. She said due to the huge lines at the security, they are not letting people out of the aircrafts that are stopping for refuelling and cleaning. After 10 minutes of argument, she told me to wait, called one of her assistants and asked her to take me to a corner where those people normally hide and smoke. I rushed there, smoked a cigarette while the cleaning lady was keeping an eye on the otherside to make sure that nobody is coming that side. Came back tot he plane with a big grin and the woman with whom I had an argument, said 'you should give that habit' and I said with the same grin that I was mentally prepared to have a smoke in Paris ever since I boarded the plane in Newark, In my return trip I will prepare myself psychologically that I will not get a chance to smoke until reaching Newark and that should solve the problem before I give up smoking for good .
On the day of my return trip, the plane landed in Paris and I just stood up to stretch and in the process walked upto the gate and saw the same woman and before I said hi she started, 'i can't let you sneak out this time. if you want, take your passport, ticket and carry on baggage, go out and smoke as many as you want and get back in line. if you are lucky, you may be able to board the plane before it takes off'. i said, 'i have mentally prepared that i wouldn't get a chance to smoke until reaching newark and was not even planning to step out. since you gave me the option of stepping out, let me get my carry on baggage and go out' went back to my seat, picked up my carry on baggage and walked out |

PAK is ahead of India ... it has already aquired a model flight from Boeing , which can fly Non-Stop from US to PAK/India
Air India is still in talks with Boeing. They have plans to NY-MUMBAI Non-stop flights soon.

The Maharaja is on a roll. It has decided to increase its footprint in the global market, particularly in the United States. While focusing on the US market, India's international carrier has decided to cater to the Gulf region and Southeast Asia with its low- cost carrier Air-India Express.
AI has decided to add 3 more destinations in the US to the four it is presently flying. AI director Jitendra Bhargava said the airline was planning to link Mumbai-Delhi with San Francisco, Houston and Washington in the next 12 months by taking more aircraft on lease, pending the fleet expansion proposal.
Bhargava said despite the tight market conditions for leased aircraft, AI had an edge as it had tapped the market much earlier to meet its growing expansion plans, especially to US, where it had increased the number of flights from a mere 10 (daily to New York and three to Chicago) services in Dec 2002 to 25 now by adding Newark (daily), Los Angeles (five flights) and 3 more services to Chicago). By March-end, AI will have 28 services a week, a daily to all the four destinations in US — New York, Newark, Chicago and Los Angeles.
Currently, 11 aircraft are engaged in operating 25 flights per week to the US market, which provides over 20% of AI's total revenues in last fiscal, said Bhargava.
AI plans to connect Chicago and Los Angeles with a daily frequency from March 28 as against six and five services, respectively, at present. Delhi is to be connected thrice weekly with Los Angeles via Frankfurt while four flights would be operated out of Mumbai, Bhargava said on the eve of the delivery of the first of 3 leased Boeing 737-800 aircraft for AI Express. Presently it has taken on lease 5 Boeing 747-400s, two 777s and 11 Airbus A310s apart from the 14 Boeing 737-800s that it plans to take for AI Express. AI Express is scheduled to be launched from April connecting Kerala to the Gulf region in the first phase.
