am not sure if your relatives were coming from India/going to India. IF going to India, I don't think they require. The visa is required based on country of journey origin
they flew from India. the first lufthansa flight out of Hyderabad.
Last year I called British consulate and according to them, if you got your green card before 1999, then you need a transit visa to fly through London. If you have overstayed (even with extending your visa) then you need to get a transit visa to fly through London. I am not sure if the rules are changed now. One of my friend's was stopped in Dubai. Even though he got his greencard in 2000, it was listed on the card that it was issued as of mid 97 (his priority date). When he boarded the emirates flight in Hyderabad, the rule was not into effect. But by the time he landed in Dubai and was ready to board the flight to London (after 14 hrs waiting), they stopped him and asked him for a transit visa. He had to stay in Dubai for a day to get a transit visa and then fly to US.
If you call the British consulate, they will let you know. |

my friend's family are returning from a vacation. when they called to re-confirm reservation( 72 hrs befor) theu were notified that they need to have Visa, if not they won't bwe allowed to board the flight.

Frankfurt authorities are requiring Transit visa for passengers travelling from India. The exception is having a green card, all other like H1, B1, L1, F1, need to have Visa. adi leka pothe India lo boarding pass ivvatledu. My firend's family is travelling this weekend and they came to know this new rule..

Normally it takes 2 business days to get german transit visa. You add two more days for overnight fedex. So minumum it takes 4-5 days. If you live in the same city where the embassy is it takes 2 days.

getting visa is simple..since in La we have their consulate.. just 30 mins work.. u will get it next day morning for collection.. the fee is 50 bucks.. until dec 31 '04 it was 15 bucks. |

London vallaki ayithe stamping is sufficient. I had a rough experience with this, I was travelling with Travel document and they did not allow me to board the plane. I had to reschedule and come next day |

Dear Colleague,
All Indian Nationals who will transit Germany to other destinations need to read this carefully. We will send a detailed communication to you on this later this week.
All Indian Nationals transiting through Germany Require Transit Visas
We are given to understand that Germany is changing its transit visa rules and all Indian nationals transiting via Germany to other destinations will require a transit Visa effective Feb 25th 2005 (read new exception to this below). Earlier, Indian Nationals with a valid US visa did not have to apply for transit visa for transit through Germany
Exemption to this rule
As per the German Consulate of New York, the exception to this rule for Indian Nationals is listed as "If you hold a residence permit for a member country of the European Union or if you hold a permanent residence permit allowing unrestricted return for Andorra, Japan, Monaco, San Marino, Switzerland or the United States of America (only green cards with 10 years´ validity will qualify) you do not need an airport transit visa. If you are still in doubt whether you need an airport transit visa, do not hesitate to call the German mission which serves your place of residence in the US."
Advice for travelers this week
You are requested to contact your airline / travel agent / nearest German Embassy for advice on your travel via Frankfurt. If you do not have time for applying for this transit visa, we suggest you route your travel via other ports.
Applying for a German Transit Visa
a) To apply for the transit visa, you can locate the German Consulate nearest to you by clicking on http://www.germany-info.org/relaunch/info/missions /consulates.html . You will have to apply directly with the nearest German Consulate in the US.
b) Latest Information on the documents required will be provided in the relevant German Consulate website. This would include fully completed application form, two passport photographs, valid national passport and one copy, confirmed airline ticket to final destination and one copy, original of US alien registration card or valid US visa (type A, B, E, F, G, H, I, J, L, O, R) and one copy. Even if you don't have a valid US visa make sure you carry your I-94 extension approval notice (I-797 or copy of application for I-94 extension with receipt) to prove your valid status in the United States. In addition you would need to produce a visa for your final destination (if required) and one copy. Of course those Indian Nationals transiting Germany to India do not need an Indian visa.

Frankfurt authorities are requiring Transit visa for passengers travelling from India. The exception is having a green card, all other like H1, B1, L1, F1, need to have Visa. adi leka pothe India lo boarding pass ivvatledu. My firend's family is travelling this weekend and they came to know this new rule.. |
