Durgi
Malashree, after four years, is back as again as Durgi.
The film’s story has already been summed up in its catchline: “It takes billions of years for a beast to become a man, but man takes a few seconds to become a beast”.
Besides, the film, produced by Ramu Enterprises. The posters also claim that the film is the “biggest movie ever made on Kannada screen”.
It is about Durgi, elder daughter of a cook (Ramesh Bhat) at Durgapur.
Her younger sister Ningi is raped by rowdies. They also kill her father.
She vows to take revenge on those rowdies and comes to the city along with her grandmother and the high school headmaster Shankraiah (Avinash).
Raikar (Ashish Vidyarthi), police commissioner, traces her as the culprit after two murders but supports her as he thinks the police and judiciary cannot punish the accused.
From here the story goes on expected lines and Durgi kills the four villains including Jaidev (Raghuvaran) and Marigudi (Kalabhavan Mani). Even after the villains’ murder he does not arrest her and she with her grandmother returns to her village.
The director has maintained the suspense in the first part and ‘the story begins’ in the second part which is more of violence and action than acting.
There is nothing new in the story. It is full of violence, blood, murders and harsh sounds.
But the special effects mixed to the action scenes are watchable. Comedy scenes fail to appeal. The sentimental scenes seem to be sidelined by the action scenes.
The last scene where Durgi remembers her father and sisiter while returning to village has been picturised well.
Malashree, who has earlier acted in a similar role in Chamundi, has done a good job. Her ‘macho’ actions speak more than words. Ashish Vidyarthi suits his role.
Raghuvaran’s character has not much scope. But Kalabhavan Mani scores.
Veteran theatre actress B Jayashree has again proved that she can both act and sing (The fast paced title song).
Ashalatha, Honnavalli Krishna Doddanna and Sadhu Kokila have small roles.
Hamsalekha has composed the music. Nalliyalli Cauvery neeru banthu is hummable and Cottonpete Kanaka may amuse the frontbenchers.

NTR’s new upbeat in the direction of B. Gopal is going to hit the screen on May 13th. The audio of the film is set to release on April 22nd. The two damsels Ameesha Patel and Sameera Reddy are pairing up with NTR for the film. Above all Arthi Agarwal is going to give special treat with her presence in an item song. Mani sharma is scoring music for the film. The film is the remake of Kannada hit ‘Durgi’ with a change in gender orientation. The title is yet to be decided and the tug is running between ‘Narasimhudu’ and ‘Kondaveeti Narasimham’. The film has completed almost all of its shooting schedules except the song on Arthi and climax part. Now the schedule is running in Switzerland and lasts till 18th there.
