Rats scare MCH babus MCH officials are hearing, seeing and thinking rats these days as their offices are rat-infested. The civic body which is responsible for keeping dogs, rats, monkeys and cats off the streets have found themselves in a big mess. Rats as big as cats have taken over the MCH offices and are driving everyone crazy. A rather disgusted MCH official notes, “If we cannot keep our own house in order, how can we keep the city clean.” Chief city planner B Purushotham Reddy says, “ They have as many flo-ors to themselves as the staff. They live on false ceilings of every floor. Apart from being embarrassing, they do not let MCH staff breathe peacefully.” “They (rats) make a lot of noise and constantly run all over the false ceiling,” says Additional Commissioner for planning M V Satyanarayana. He also says files can’t be left on the desk unattended as they get eaten. MCH Additional Commissioner for Projects K Dhanunjay Reddy’s staff had a tough time finding out dead rats recently. Furniture from his room was shifted as the hunt began. For the MCH, getting their offices in shape is its top priority. It better be because in-house statistics say there are at least 10 rats per human in that office. The MCH better gets cracking on the rat front because, “A female rat can produce 285 babies in weeks,” says an official on conditions of anonymity. Additional Commissioner for Health Vandan Kumar says, “There is no rat squad to tackle the rat menace in the city.” So, the next time better think twice before stepping inside MCH. http://www.deccan.com/City/CityNews.asp?#Lorry%20f alls%20on%20autorickshaw,%20killing%20eight
