Never ever seen in the history of RTC X Roads in recent times for a 100 th Day movie celebrations. Massive crowd of Nagfans (Nearly 2000 - Double the capacity of the theater) thronged the Devi, 70mm theater for the special show screened at 9:00pm on April 1st, 2005.
Director Lawrence got flabbergasted with the massive response from the Massamrat Mass Fans.
Theater echoed with Massamrat Mass fans dances and shoutings. Crowd was uncontrollable. Even after the completion of the movie Nagfans rocked the RTC X Roads with slogans and open challenges claiming their supremecy in celebrating 100th day function in a massive way at RTC X Roads.

Nagarjuna's stylish performance makes all the difference to an otherwise ordainry action thriller. The slick dances and fights are a treat to watch. The director maintains a tight grip over the screenplay. Comedy track is good. Charmy and Jothika do their parts well. Raghuvaran- Rahul Dev put in excellent performances. Out and out a `mass' entertainer

Story- This is a racy masala story of love and revenge.
You wouldn't believe that the film was made by a first-time director. Almost all the aspects of the film have been well taken care of- excellent editing, stunts and sets.
Music is a slight letdown- some songs are bad, others are simply average.

'Mass' will be Nagarjuna's fifth hit in a row. His previous blockbusters were Santosham, Manmadhudu, Shivamani and Nenunnanu. His latest film Mass has both class and mass elements in equal proportions. Nagarjuna looks excellent and also has given an excellent performance. Lawrance though a debut did an excellent job with screenplay and direction. The only draw back is, lack of comedy. Paruchuri brothers dialogues are good. Photography by Chota K Naidu is good. Production values of the movie are excellent.
Nagarjuna is terrific as the mass hero. He looks very young and active. He excelled as class and mass hero in the film, His dances numbers are excellent. Jyothika and Charmi provide the oomph, they have nothing much to do. Rahuldev and Raghuvaran perfectly fit into their roles. Sunil, Dharmavarapu and all other supporting cast did justice to their roles.
Verdict-Hit.

Telugu filmdom is fixated with masala elements. But mass things need not be such a bad thing. They carry with them universal appeal. They have a ring of appealing truism to them.
The Mass film is a good example. It has all the ingredients, plus some more. Debutant director Lawrence has worked out so many scenes that may appeal to the common fan even though the story line is a regular one. With Nagarjuna, in fine fettle, the film acquires an extra sheen and style.
Nagarjuna is simply superb in a tailor-made role. Be it in fights or be it in emoting, he comes up with the requisite realism. Nagarjuna is helped by some gritty and stylized presentation. The production values are consistently high. Nagarjuna plays a role that seems an extension of the one he did in Siva. He looks ruggedly handsome and moves away from the soft-focus lover-boy of his previous three films.
For the dance director turned director Lawrence this is a baptism by fire. He seems to show a flair for handling the basics. He sure knows how to cobble a nice film that has both style and substance.
The film will surely get the nod at the box office.

Nagarjuna smilingly carries the audience’ admiration with his incisive portrayal of a role loaded with plenty of action. The film is quite engaging right from the start. It is also quite rich in the technical contribution. Every sequence is shaped elegantly and the narration keeps the audience guessing. Nagarjuna excels in both fights and dances, into which some special effort went in to render them a bit special to this film.
ANALYSIS:
The film is shaped according to mass taste, filling with, a number of fights and songs. But there is enough drama to sustain the tempo. Raghava Lawrence makes a debut as director too and reveals he has good taste in steering the scenes attracting not just masses but even class audience too. He cannot ignore the educated class as Nagarjuna plays the lead. Jyothika is brought in as heroine in the second part of the drama. In fact the structure of the theme itself has incorporated flashback technique, for the background story of the hero, narrated here is in fact in the second half of the film. The first half is full of action, displaying the martial skills of the hero. The film has the likeness of a Hollywood or a Hon Kong flick structure. But there is plenty of mischief and sentiment played up from the beginning introducing the character of a mischievous girl played by Charmie. The second half picks up-tempo a after a couple of reels. The comedy scenes pale in this full-length action drama, which turn to be bloody towards the end.

Nonstopcinema
Nagarjuna's well chiseled and muscular body makes him a good choice for the mass roles. Surprisingly, he was good in the fights and attempted typical mass steps in the songs. He goes back to his rough and tough, macho man getup used in Shivamani in this film.
Analysis : The film started on a good note, but the director lost tempo half way through because of the shallow story. The interval bang ends at a wrong point, but the following scenes were good. The on-screen pair of Nag, Jyothika and the romance between them was cute. There is a lag again in the second half till the climax begins. The only unpredictable twist in the film comes towards the climax, which was interesting. The climax fight had the punch, and makes one get up with a feeling of satisfaction. Lawrence has to mature more as a director, and should pay more attention to logic and reasoning. He has a good potential in him to make a mass director, provided he doesn't ape his peers. The film started off with a positive talk. The movie has excellent openings because of the 180+ print release and Nag's craze, which is at its pinnacle now. Since many other films are slated for release soon, one should wait to predict the film's revenue generating capacity.

Nagarjuna is at his best in this movie. He looks extraordinarily handsome as Mass. It is like breaking his own record in being handsome. His dances and fights are superb and the best in his career, coming as a silent surprise to the fans and audiences. All through the movie, you don’t find any “over action” in Nag’s characterization, but everything in order.
Story, Screenplay and Direction by Lawrence Raghava is surely trendy and interesting. He could deal the screenplay in an excellent manner till the intermission, but for about 40 minutes in the second half, the mood is disturbed in the theatre due to songs and flashback scenes. However, he well succeeded in sustaining the curiosity and tension among the audience. Lawrence is going to have a bright career as a director.
Another plus point is there is no vulgarity in the movie.
You have sufficient comedy in the main story and side track as well.
The director succeeded in touching the hearts of the audience in one particular scene – When Nag visits his orphanage along with Jyothika.
FC Verdict
The movie opened to a hit talk all over the state. True to its title, it is a feast to the Mass. Moreover, it’s a good watch for family audiences too.

Nagarjuna was a brand name for being a class actor. Perfectly balancing between his previous image he has successfully created a new image of being a great ‘mass’ hero too with this film.
He has proven himself yet again especially with reference to the emotional scenes, his conversation with his dead mother’s photograph, his friend Aadi’s (Sunil) death and other scenes have been really well shot!!
The fights and the dances are far better than all his previous ventures put together. He looked quite glamorous too!! This is clear when he fights Rahul Dev in the climax, he is just sooooo, ferocious.
‘Maas’ can now be called a synonym for Nagarjuna. His dialogue delivery too is simply great here.
The others in the film too have performed well.
Dialogues:
The Paruchuri Brothers have failed to create their kind of an impact. They couldn’t pen their usual kind of dialogues with reference to heroes like Chiranjeevi and Balakrishna.
Music:
Devi Sri Prasad’s music will definitely work no wonders for the film. But two of the songs and the rerecording part are very impressive.
Fights
Vijay’s composition of the fights is quite extra ordinary to add to this the graphics too have worked out well.
Editing:
Excellent!!!!
The film definitely maintains the needed tempo to keep the audiences glued to their seats!!

Lawrence proved his talent as a director with this film. Kind of shot-takings, direction take this movie to a different level. The film starts interestingly right from the first moment. The way the villain characters are established is very novel and impactful. Fights and songs add a flavor to the film. Lalla Lahirey song is a treat. Nagarjuna danced with such a grace for this one. Nagarjuna looked energetic and dynamic in the songs. Vijay did a great job with composing action sequences. Each action sequence is a variety. However, the span of the bike chase scene before the interval could have been cut short. Though there are some artifical stunts like driving bike in the air and escaping bullets, the composition is perfect and covers for the artificiality.
Nagarjuna performed a novelty in his dances and fights. They are amazing. He also delivered a good timing for comedy scenes. There is plenty of situational comedy in the film. Though he acted his ferocity in films previously, his performance in such scenes in Mass is a treat to watch. Charmi's role entertains. However, the director didnot pay much attention in establishing this character. Jyothika bags the performance points. She did a splendid job. Rahul Dev is, asusual, at his best. Raghuvaran is usually at his best. Also, the director worked his way great in establishing the characters of the villains. Sunil as the friend of Adi and Prakash Raj as lawyer did content for their roles.
Photography and editing are good. Being a technician himself, Lawrence seemed to have paid good attention at other aspects too. Though there is nothing novel in the story, as mentioned by Nagarjuna himself in the pressmeets, it is the fights, songs, and the scenes that are novel. The presentation is fresh. Kudos to Lawrence for making this a feast for Nagarjuna fans and also making the narration entertaining.

Analysis:
Nagarjuna: The film is Nagarjuna and Nagarjuna is the film. He looks very young and active. He excelled as class and mass hero in the film. Either the scenes where he express his love to Anjali, or the sentimental scenes where he talks to his mother in the photo he is excellent. His fighting scenes with Rahul dev are ferocious.
Jyothika and Charmi are ok. Nothing much to do. Glamour dolls.
Rahuldev, Raghuvaran, Sunil, Dharmavarapu did their jobs well. Sunil showed he could do some fights (with that body).
Over all a neat and family entertainer with the good production values. Can be watched with all, though a predictable story.

Analysis:
First half of the film is good. The tempo in flashback goes a bit down as most of the flashback deals with romantic episodes. The mass tempo is back in the last half an hour. First half and climax entertains the masses and the flashback episode entertains the class section. There are a couple of heart-touching episodes in flashback (Scene in which a child-beating-father calls Nagarjuna an orphan and the scene in which he joins a group of orphans and asks Jyothika to feed him too). On the flip side, Mass does not have enough popular entertainment in terms of comedy. There are no boring moments in this 2.45 Hr film though. You should watch 'Mass' on the big screen to enjoy the charming Nag in his new avatar.
Box Office:
Mass generated unanimous positive mouth talk by audience and hit talk by trade pundits. This film would be a definite 70-day film, as per the trade buzz. The range of the success would depend on how other Sankranthi biggies perform at box office. The track record of Nagarjuna's career (4 successive blockbusters - Santosham, Manmadhudu, Shivamani and Nenunnanu) helped 'Mass' to generate tremendous openings. And Mass has all chances to become the highest grosser in Nagarjuna's career.
