Formula of Atluri: Minus into minus is plus
'Catch them when they are beaten and are in low esteem' seems to be the mantra of Atluri Purnachandra Rao. Because, they can only go up from that rock bottom. Atluri Purnachandra Rao has chosen to go with Teja, Uday Kiran, Sada and RP Patnaik. Let us look at their career graph now -
Teja: Teja made his debut as director with a 22-lakh budgeted film Chitram in the combination of hero Uday Kiran and music director RP Patnaik. This film went on to collect crores and paved way to low-budget blockbusters. Teja's second film Family Circus went unnoticed as it turned out to be a dud a box office. Teja is back in his elements for 'Nuvvu Nenu' which went on to become a huge blockbuster and redefined youth film genre. He started his own production house 'Chitram Movies' and introduced Nitin to make the film 'Jayam' which went on to become another huge success. Teja's graph started going down with Mahesh Babu's Nijam and went further down with Jai and Dhairyam. Teja is confidant that he has reached his bottom and he can only go up from this point.
Uday Kiran: Uday Kiran started off his career with Chitram and followed it up with two more blockbusters Nuvvu Nenu and Manasantha Nuvve. He has become the heartthrob of college girls in no time. His popularity has gone to the level of having female fans who write him letters with their nibs dipped in real blood. The films that released further - Kalusukovalni, Sreeram, Nee Sneham - turned out to be average flicks by making him a minimum guarantee hero. His film Naaku Nuvvu Neeku Nenu bombed at box office. His last film 'Love Today' was a total washout. A couple of under production films were shelved off due to unknown reasons. When he was unemployed as an actor, Teja gave him another chance to resurrect his career by offering 'Avunanna Kadanna'. Uday Kiran who has not lost his on-screen charm is waiting for the release of this film to strike back with vengeance.
Sadaf: Sadaf - a girl from Maharashtra - was found by Teja for his film Jayam. She has got sensible looks and Teluguness in her. She learnt Telugu and can freely converse in Telugu language. She did not have any hits after Jayam in Telugu though she acted in quite a few films. However, her Kannada film Monalisa went on to become a silver jubilee film. She got a few successes in Tamil as well. She is pinning her hopes on Teja to give her second hit in Telugu.
RP Patnaik: The age-old popular adage of 'kalasi vunte kaladu sukham' applies well to the popular duo of Teja - RP Patnaik. They excelled together for three blockbusters of Teja. But separated after the flop of Nijam. Neither Teja nor RP Patnaik got any successes later. They got reunited for Avunanna Kadanna. The music of Avunanna Kadanna has got appreciation from all over.
Village based love story:
Teja says that Avunanna Kadanna is a village based love story. The story of this film takes place in an island of Godari. The director has shown only bicycles, bullock carts and boats as means of transportation. This film starts with black and white canvas and turns colorful as the narration progresses. Teja made sure that it appears as tender love story by creating publicity in such way. But he reckons that there would be spine chilling action elements in this film. Teja feels that a well-made village bases love story has more span for emotions and scope for box office success than any other films. Pilla Prasad who made his debut as villain in Sri Anjaneyam is doing the role of main villain in this film.
Will this film bail Atluri out?
More than the above mentioned people, the man who needs this film to become a blockbuster is the producer Atluri Purnachandra Rao. His second innings as producer started with 'Venky' which got hit talk, but it did not get any profits to producer. 'Mr and Mrs Sailaja Krishnamurthy' was a loss venture. The producer spent more than he could afford for 'Avunanna Kadanna'.
Will the underdog turn victorious?
The lack of expectations for this film would give a warm welcome when it hits marquee on 6th April. This film's success would put the career of 5 people - Teja (director), Uday Kiran (hero), Sadaf (heroine), RP Patnaik (Music director) and Atluri Purnachandra Rao (producer) - in place. Let us wish that Avunanna Kadanna would become a blockbuster.
