The veteran Bollywood Director Sekhar Kapoor once said with his understanding, ‘Film Industry is a glorified brothel’. The controversial statement shook the heads of many. After a long interval, there was a group of audience sitting before Mahesh Bhatt for TV show recently. The topic was about the depiction of obscenity or something inappropriate through media. A teenage girl from the group asked Mahesh Bhatt, “ Should we switch off our television sets while the films like ‘Murder’ are transmitted. Irritated Mahesh Bhatt replied in anger, “ I’m a prostitute selling my self”. Well, do these statements sound logical? Certainly not! It speaks less about the industry when the sources of inspiration talk ill about their work and field of work. Off late, Shakthi Kapoor said something inappropriate that was caught by hidden camera. He said impliedly, “ Aishwarya Rai with Subhash Ghai, Rani Mukherjee Yash Chopra and Prety Zinta with…’ When raised this topic in Hyderabad, film personalities have come out with their stern opinions. “ We don’t know with which experience Sekhar Kapoor said so. It is highly condemnable. There are many people in the industry who work seriously with artistic commitment. Such statements hurt larger section of people in industry. Even Mahesh Bhatt should have thought twice before uttering that. The creator shouldn’t think in the way that he would do whatever he wishes and through on public. He should have social responsibility ”, says the contemporary successful director Neelakanta. “ We need not consider the statements given by Shakthi Kapoor to be true. He is the one who is on the gallows of the defamed by getting trapped red handed. His is an untrue man and obviously his statements would be untrue”, says Rohith, the hero debuted with the film Relax. “ I vehemently condemn Sekhar Kapoor’s comment”, says Shiva Nageswara Rao, the well-known director. Although it was an old statement by Sekhar Kappor, which is similar to that of a layman’s understanding, it remains a black mark on the industry forever. Flirts and the people who involve in opportunistic sexual relations do not emerge with the vice or virtue of industry they are in. But such incidents may take place anywhere under the sky, irrespective of the field. It is only with the character of the people that decides their plight. So, generalized statements hamper the whole lot!
