RV - you should watch it just to see how a desi musical works in the west. I saw snowwhite too but was not too enamored. Incidentally we had to walk out cuz my mom could not sit through it. I am itching to see chitty chitty or chicago. IBM - no maan, me no exaggerating. give some of our college dudes even a lakh rupees and they would come up with very decent shows. I saw one play totally written and performed in 'verse' , and this was by 20 year olds. the props were awesome and they worked with 20K budget and 3 month time period.

Ayeshas exit??? Isnt she there till the very end?? In London, it was ayesha and the hijra who got the biggest applause in the end.. the girl has got it... truly BD rocks because of her. Is dalip tahil there in the broadway version too?? His too was a commendable performance. "Overall, honestly speaking I have seen better stage shows done in Indian colleges by students working on shoestring budgets of 10K rupees." Idi koncham over ayinattu anipinchindi..:-) If broadway has a version of Queens We will rock you, watch that before lion king.I have seen it in and man was i stunned?? I had posted a review in ib..will search and post the link. or try chitty chitty bang bang.

I haven't seen Broadway musical, but my only experience with musical shows were the shows in California's Universal Studios and Disneyland.. Particularly Spiderman in universal and Snowwhite and seven dwarfs in disneyland.. Spiderman was entertaining but OK, but Snowwhite and the seven dwarfs was spectacular and great.. I had great expectations on 'Bombay Dreams', but sad to hear that your experience points to the contrary.. I would like to hear more opinions if anyone has seen it.. In fact I was planning to see it the next time I go to NY.. I just hope people don't get bad impressions of Rahman's music or Indian music in particular from this show.. |

OK, finally saw my first broadway musical. cant get better than it being an Indian one, but the show itself was not upto mark. Hero ( Manu Narayan) was very good in acting, singing and dances. heroine was a let down with her fat ass and horrible singing. ayesha dharker rocked and the whole show looked dismal after her exit. Many songs from ARR's original London show were changed and some other songs got butchered in the live singing, chaiyya chaiyya being a prime example. for shakalaka baby, they retained the recorded version and this song was very well done, thanks to Farah khan's choreography. Deep Katdare from American desi is the villain and he was good too. Most notable is the eunuch 'sweety', this dude really captured the essence of a Bombay Eunuch with a golden heart and has a great potential as a theatre performer. major irritant was the umpteen references to the caste system, it was grating after a while moreso since I dont think it's valid in the bollywood industry at all. if Indians dont help in breaking the stereotypes, who will ? Overall, honestly speaking I have seen better stage shows done in Indian colleges by students working on shoestring budgets of 10K rupees. with so much money being invested, they could have done so much more. Also if an average Broadway musical is like THIS, I am sorely disappointed. anyone that has seen a lion king or a chicago can prolly comment. My next target is 42nd street and hope that would be an extravaganza.
