Hyderabad, May 3: The TRS is making moves to counter Chief Minister Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy’s reported plans to shift the Telugu film industry to Vishakapatnam in case Telangana becomes a reality. TRS president and Union Labour Minister, Mr K. Chandrasekhar Rao, has held talks with major film producers to persuade them to stay back in the capital. He assured them that there was no need for any apprehension. KCR also sought the cooperation of the film fraternity in making the Telangana state a reality.
The Chief Minister, in a recent felicitation by the film fraternity, asked producers and directors to set up studios and shoot more films in Visakhapatnam. Mr Tammareddy Bharadwaja, a producer and former president of the AP Cine Workers Federation, met KCR on Tuesday and took him to the Chitrapuri Colony at Nanakramguda, where a housing colony for cine workers is coming up.
KCR used the occasion to appeal to the film producers not to shift their base from Hyderabad. “Telangana will have wonderful opportunities for the film industry to grow,” he said. “If the Telangana State is formed, we will ensure that the industry gets all the required facilities. We will provide government lands at nominal rates to set up studios and give land for the film workers to construct their houses”.
