The graphics – Oh My Oh! Why is this fascination towards graphics? Graphics are supposed to help you in the visualization part. They are not obligatory. They are not a must. You need not use graphics just to show that you can also use graphics. And just rewind a little bit and go back to the golden nineties. Chiranjeevi fights then used to be a treat to the eyes. They were believable, daring and hair raising. (Anyone remember the Train climax of Goonda?) <<<<< correct ga seppav platy mama... |

COPYRIGHTS reserved by platypus: Before you read my review of Andarivadu, I want you to carefully read the next few lines. The review is basically an expression of my Andarivadu experience. I am not speaking on behalf of the entire Andhra Pradesh population. My rating or analysis of the movie is purely based on my personal views of how a movie should be made. There is no reason why anyone should not agree with my analysis. As is pretty obvious, I am entitled to express my opinion in a democratic country like India. Thanks for reading the disclaimer. Last Saturday I drove 180 kilometers north to reach a movie hall showing Andarivadu. Thanks to e-Seva, we had the tickets ready and were not disappointed to see the houseful board. The movie hall in question, Nartaki in Nellore – probably the worst movie hall I’ve ever seen – might have influenced my Andarivadu experience in a big way. I can’t do anything about it. It has a pathetic sound system designed most probably in the 1980’s or the hall owner is of the opinion that DTS actually means turning on the side speakers during songs and fights. The projection leaves a lot to be desired. It was blurry, had a wheatish look all over and pretty dim. The screen size – tauted be a 70mm screen – is definitely not 70mm. Airconditioning means turning on the air curtain near the entry/exit points and table fans or wall-mounted fans inside the auditorium. Unfortunately I selected a noon show. I was drenched in sweat by the time the first song was over. Coming to the movie – It is a disgrace to Chiranjeevi. It was a pretty low budget movie with minimal production values. The director apparently was not interested in the technical aspects of the movie. There are a zillion technical errors in the movie. Can’t list them all here in this article. Forget the technical aspects, let us have a look the screenplay. This movie does not have one. Looks like the director and the producer get all the actors and technicians assembled at the spot first and then over a cup of coffee or masala tea discuss what to shoot and how to shoot. The rat episode leaves one totally flabbergasted – not in the positive way. If that is not enough, the bike chase scene is bound to bowl you over. If you are still alive, you have a treat in the form of a deserted railway station where trains with infinite number of compartments ply continuously on the tracks… sometimes many on the same track. Logic! Agreed it has no place in a “family drama” like this. However the utter callousness of the producer and the director and probably Chiranjeevi too, (for I think no one can blink an eyelid without his consent.) is most surprising. The songs – yes. Some of them look like they had been filmed during the Punaadi Rallu era and used now. The flowery costumes of Chiranjeevi take you off guard. You start hating flowers. Immediately you see the great Megastar in Salwar Kameezes. The movie has one actor Chiranjeevi. Rest are all ignored. They don’t have any roles to play. Classic example is Prakash Raj in a role that insults him. This proves my masala tea proposition I talked about two paragraphs ago. (Anyone remember the Train climax of Goonda?) The fights in Andarivadu however only succeed in driving the people away from the theatre. Probably the only place where graphics helps the narration was when Rimmi Sen declares that Govindaraju cannot consume alcoholic beverages for a week. Chiranjeevi’s reaction coupled with the graphics visuals managed to evoke a healthy laughter. However such scenes are too few in number like the oases in Sahara desert. The rest of the movie is a pain to watch and an insult to the technicians. This may not be the worst Chiranjeevi movie because Mugguru Monagallu and Rikshavodu are simply unsurpassable but the third place definitely goes to Andarivadu. And I don’t want to spend any more time on this piece of garbage. Hence I am ending the review right here. Platy’s advice: I know you are all going to see the movie no matter what. Hence my advice is: just wait for the DVD. CINEMA ni chirige daaka vuthiki ,appatikee saaantinchaka peelikalu ayyedaaka pindi aaresaadu HATSOFF |
