i misconstrued the intention of your threads title based on the bolded content. But in my defence, given the material this DB provides on a daily basis, this transgression of mine can hopefully be pardoned. mea culpa AFA Paresh Rawal goes, there is no doubting his talent and I couldnt have put together a more irrefutable post as #34 of yours despite my "sincer'est" attempts. hope to chance upon more of your posts and more posters like you. |

No Tifosi, great actors do not need superlatives from insignificant critics or fans like us on the basis of their opinions on particular things (such as languages). If that were the case I would be on a superlative binge on Ilayaraja, Raj Kapoor, etc. who all had an inexplicable love for the mellifluous nature of the Telugu language. I genuinely think Paresh Rawal is one of the best Bollywood actors we have, in the category of Balraj Sahni, Sanjeev Kumar, et al. There is a genuineness to his character portrayal that is so natural and authentic. I became a fan of his after watching a Vinod Khanna Dimple Kapadia remake (forgot the name) of The Star Chamber where Paresh played a villain. The very casual way in which he invites Dimple, playing a police officer, to get raped by him in a scene in this movie is enough to measure the greatness of this actor. That he excelled in several more substantial roles later is well known. That he bothers to learn other languages and appreciates the respect these languages ought to be given is only icing on the cake. Compare this to our own Telugu biddalu like Vijayashanti who cannot speak the language well enough to dub their own voices, and you get a good picture of where I'm going with admiration for this man's hard working nature. At least his Telugu doesn't sound as ridiculous as Amrish Puri's or even Udit Narayan's "Telugu" |

are your superlatives attributes to the following quote of his???? "Some languages like Telugu are so sweet, it's a pleasure to speak in it. " |

Paresh Rawal is simply the best actor we have today in Bollywood. His interview in July 2005 issue of Little India is very good. Interviewer: Naseeruddin Shah said in an interview he hates doing films in languages he doesn't understand and that for one of the films he just mouthed ikka, dukka, tikka (one, two, three) and they dubbed over it. Paresh: On the contrary I try to learn the language and memorize my dialogues. Besides, the vocabulary in films is pretty limited. It's not that difficult and these days a lot of films are using extensive English vocabulary. Some languages like Telugu are so sweet, it's a pleasure to speak in it. I feel to do justice to a role in another language I must honor the language before anything else and allow myself the pleasure of learning and speaking the language. Another snippet: "The sleaze that you see in most serials and the degradation is sickening. In spite of such a rich cultural heritage we are relegated to seeing inappropriate relationships, mother in law / daughter in law caricatures and promiscuity on television. Even the brazen way in which these serials are marketed and promoted is shameful. I can count on my fingers the number of good quality serials we've had to date." |
