Source: http://www.cinegoer.com/ Director Paruchuri Murali is just two film's old but falls short of expectations when it comes to his third film 'Andhrudu'. The very title itself is questionable. Does the director wants to repeat what NTR did in his Simhadri, becoming hero in Kerala by doing what the Kerala police could not do in restoring law and order. Even there is Godavari Pushkaram scene in this film too like Simhadri had, but with different texture. When it comes to writing the story and screenplay, this film is way behind that film and also Yagnam, which put Gopichand into stardom. This film in contrast to Yagnam looks as if the director pulled the carpet from under the hero. The story line itself is undoing of the hero. The director made him to do all unworthy things that are against law and sense. Sri Keerti Creations's ML Kumar Chowdary or his story team appears to have not concentrated on building a proper action line for the hero. Gopichand playing the role of Surendra is stranded at odd places most of the time. He is active only when he is in action drama parts. The film disappoints more because of high expectations, that Gopi's 'Yagnam' built. Bihar indeed is the backdrop for the action drama and the second part of the film has this texture. But the entire scenario concentrates only on a politician played by Sayaji Shinde and his son (Salim). That too on a marital issue. We find only a few goondas with guns in hand around Sayaji Shinde, aiming their guns at the police officer (Malhotra) or this man Surendra, played by Gopichand. Surendra is just a Sub-Inspector of Police. And in the initial scenes the director makes him to slap not once but two three times, his big boss of an assistant commissioner level. What happens to such an SI in the real life is to be understood. He slaps him because he is corrupt and arrogant. On knowing this SP (Malhotra) suspends him. Malhotra's daughter is the heroine of the plot. Her name is Archana played by Gowri Pandit. She looks lanky but smart. Not beautiful. Archana learns music from Sastry (Viswanath). And Sastry's son is this Surendra. The director creates a silly situation of theft of a diamond chain from the house of the police Superintendent Malohtra. Not knowing Surendra is a police officer; she doubts his hand in this theft. But the moment she learns from him that he is SI and is also in search of the lost diamond chain, she starts loving him. Even the hero responds. Both want to marry. Malhotra is also convinced of the goodness of Surendra. Hence he approaches the music teacher and requests him to accept for the marriage. Meanwhile Surendra understands that Archana does not want to marry him but would like to marry a 'Bava' of hers to reunite her father with his sister's family. Sayaji Shinde is that man who married Malhotra's sister, but cut off his relations with the police officer for some other family reasons. He now stays in Bihar and is a big man politically speaking. Malhotra too moves with his family to Patna on transfer. Though, in an earlier scene, the politician comes from Bihar to take a dip in Godavari during pushkaras, he spruce venom at his brother-in-law Malhotra. But now things change because Shinde's son (Salim) wants to marry SP's daughter. Surendra gets the scent of it and arrives at Patna at a time the SP is demanding Sayaji Shinde and his men to surrender guns. Rest narrates how the differences patch up between Archana and Surendra and the man in the ring to marry Archana is floored in a combat. The entire structure looks routine. The hero has minimum role and maximum presence in the cinema. The drama that surrounds the family of Shinde and Malhotra dominates for some time. The only sentimental scene that is interesting is the one on the banks of river Godavari. Gopichand does well in action parts because of the advantage of his physique, but fares poorly in drawing room drama and romantic parts, mainly because there is no proper dialogue for the roles. And the comedy with Sunil and another man interferes frequently with main narration. Music is partly good. But there is nothing musical as far as the Sastry's carnatic school goes. K Viswanath played this musician. The new face Gowry Pandit is passable. Part of the dialogue is in Hindi. There is a Hindi song too. These confuse the drama. The comedy track is artificially linked to Bihar story scenes. |
