Sam,
There is a "wine route" from St.Catharines to Niagara Falls. Many people (who live in the US) are not aware of that route and they drive straight on highway (QEW) from Toronto to Falls. If you are coming from Toronto side, take the exit at Glendale Ave. right after St.Catharines. At this exit you will see a strip mall with wendy's, pizza pizza, sunoco gas station etc. You can ask there for route 55. If you take that route it will take to Falls via Virgil & Niagara-on-the-Lake villages. This route is the most scenic one in the area. It will take about 45 mins. to get to the falls. On the way stop at Hildebrandt wineries and go for a wine tour and tasting. Its free and very nice. Once you get to Niagara-on-the-lake, you will be driving on the bank of Niagara river (on canadian side), an excellent drive. There are botanical gardens, butterfly museum on the way, if you are interested.
