I remember the day I and dad brought you home as a b'day gift to 'myself' from the petshop.They told us you were 2 months old, a Golden Retriever and a lab mix . My dad and I wanted a smaller dog, but when our eyes met and you looked at me so expectantly with such a hunger to be loved, I couldn’t resist. You knew that didn’t you? You got into my arms and into my heart in just those few seconds. Nenu ninnu etthukuni nee kallaloki straight gaa chuste nuvvu tala thippeskunnav gurthunda?? "Pure innocence", that's how you arrived. From that moment, you were mine and ofcourse, i was yours.
When we brought you home, mom and sis simply cried out in joy. We all sat together and named you 'Jimmy' and you wagged your tail in acknowledgement, the only way you knew to express your gratitude. You used to run around the house hyper actively. You were full of love, unconditional love. I still remember the nightouts I and sis had put together to feed you with milk all through the nights. You used to drag your milk bowl into my lap with your milky teeth but i preferred my palm to your bowl. Were you comfortable jimmy? I still remember the saddened look in your tiny eyes when i was waving you goodbye at the railway station.

I would never forget the way you used to greet me, (putting your long legs onto my shoulders and crying aloud in excitement) for howmuch ever shortwhile i was away from home, making me feel there is always a "special friend" waiting for me in the balcony backhome. When I sat in the sofa, you’d lay your head at my feet looking up occasionally to make sure I knew you were there. Of course I did Jimmy. When i looked at you and smiled, you would sigh contentedly, close your eyes and soon you'd be asleep. And when I hugged mom, you would growl in jealousy. You always wanted me to cuddle you alone, isn't it??

One thing i could never do was to teach you not to drag me when we were walking together. I know i said some harsh words to you, but u never cared me, did u?? We used to go to the terrace and you would meet all your 'special friends',the kids in the apartments, and play along with them until they were tired. I used to wonder how gentle you were when you were with kids.
And how can i forget the sleepless and helpless night when you were struck with fits. The other night, sis and mom called me and cried that you had an attack of fits.You never know how helpless i was, sitting in that hostel room of mine with thousands of miles making a mockery at me. You never knew how happy i was after i came to know that you were doing fine.

Then came the dark days. Those days when you became lethargic and refused to eat. The vet said you had xxxx disease and you were given a month’s dose of antibiotic. You seemed to recover after that, but you wouldn’t eat regular dog food. Instead I fed you “people food.” After all, we were buddies.
And just when we thought you were returning to health you refused to eat even 'people food' and I had to force you to drink water by putting my hand in your bowl and bringing my filled palm up to your muzzle. You’d look into my eyes, not really wanting any but doing it just to please me, after I pleaded, saying, “Please drink darling please” and your tongue would touch my open hand. You never knew how happy i was doing that.

Even after all the tests, the vet didn’t know what caused your sickness. You were so young, barely three years old, and full of the love of life. Afterall, you were the one who taught me the meaning of love, unconditional love.Did you know?? Did you know you’d be with us for only a short time? Is that why you were so desperate to leave the petshop??
I didn’t want you to leave us, Jimmy. I couldn’t bare the thought of missing you soo early. So was sis, mom and dad you had such a loving family.We had made a commitment to each other and I’d stay with you till the end no matter how much it bruised my heart. Did you know how we all cried when we saw you closing your eyes even when we yelled 'Please open your eyes Jimmy...Here's an Egg for ya please open your eyes'. Did you feel me stroke your head and listen to my whisper 'i love you jimmy' when, for the final time, you looked into my eyes then went peacefully to sleep?
Oh Jimmy. Did you hear me when I said goodbye?
After your departure there is always that 'void' in the then lively home. You know mom went into a mild depression after your departure. How can i ever get to tell you how bad i feel whenever i see your abandoned bowl and leash. I heard all the pets go straight to a place called 'the rainbow bridge' in the heaven and that they will await their masters arrival to the place. More than you, iam waiting to meet you there.
