The much-hyped megastar Chiranjeevi’s latest flick, Jai Chiranjeeva, sadly disappoints in big way. What a great injustice is done to Chiranjeevi. Though Chiru has tried his best to save the film from its mediocre script, director Vijayabhaskar’s inane directorial skills sagged the film to the low.

One wonders how did Chiranjeevi accepted this silly storyline. Vijayabhaskar and Trivikram Srinivas have delivered big hits in the first, never did they offer such a low-standard film than this. Actually, one expected fireworks in the theatres as Chiranjeevi is best at comedy but Trivikram’s dialogues in the film are substandard and the screenplay is lethargic at best.

It is all about hero taking revenge on who killed his niece. But Chiranjeevi’s character is inconsistent through out the film – when hero should be exhibiting anger and hunting down the killers, he romances with the heroine. There is no seriousness in hero’s mission nor the proceedings are engrossing. And the biggest and foremost flaw is the director has forsaken the logic entirely.

Satyanarayana Murthy (Chiranjeevi), a rich landlord from Amalapuram, comes to Hyderabad to hunt down the killers of his niece. He lands in his friend’s room (Venu Madhav) and soon falls in love with his neighbor Shailaj (Sameera Reddy) after dancing and singing two songs with her it is revealed that he has mission: to nab the killers. Pasupathi (Arbaaz Khan), an arms dealer settled in USA, kills the girl in his attempt to ‘test’ his gun. Meanwhile, the Pasupathi gang kills a doctor who operated Satyanarayana Murthy’s niece, when they come to learn that he told Murthy the truth. The doctors’ daughter Neelima (Bhoomika) studies in USA and comes to India on vacation. Murthy finally makes an agreement with Neelima that she pretend as his wife and take him to USA. The two land in USA and how hero takes his revenge is the rest of the film.

Chiranjeevi with his great comic timing has made the audiences in splits but on the whole he has looked clueless as what is going on. Sameera Reddy gets more songs and more footage but she is just a glam doll in the film. Bhoomika’s role has not etched well and one of the dumb characters that we have seen in the recent times.

Bollywood actor Arbaaz Khan who has made his debut in this film comes as breath f fresh air. He has added suaveness to the character. But again illogical plot has killed his role. Venu Madhav is a big disappointment. It is Brahmanandam’s character that has received maximum response from the audiences. So does Sunil’s character. For the rest of cast, less said the better.

Even technically the film is far from appraisable. You can imagine what went wrong with the film with award winning cameraman Venugopal (whose camerawork for NVNV won praises from the common folk too) coming blotched up visuals. Anand Sai’s art work is good at some times but on the whole the film is technically too a big disappointment.

Manisharma’s music is one major asset. Jai Jai Ganesha and Hey Jana..are best of the lot, though.

Analysis:

The first half is ordinary and very typical of Vijay Bhaskar’s but in the second half he has letdown even more. His strength always was simple stories and believable characters. But in this film he has tried to project Chiranjeevi in a larger than life but has failed to come up with sufficient story. The title has no justification. It is clear that they have just tried to cash in on that popular term. That’s all.

And it has one of the stupidest climaxes in this year. The villain is supposedly a huge international arms dealer but he flies down to Hyderabad all the way from US to threaten a doctor. How ridicules. And the hero who doesn’t know English lectures in English at times and in contrast tells everyone that he can’t understand that language. And also he kills the international mafia don in US so simple way and comes off cleanly – no FBI or nothing.

Verdict: Disappointment.
