you need to have valid tna name entry inorder to connect to server from client.

you can add entry in oracle_install_dir\network\admin\tnsnames.ora file.
If you configure oracle instance, the oracle enterprise manager will add an entry to tnsnames.ora and you to do anything. If you didn't configure an instance of oracle, you can do it by using ORacle enterprise manager.
