Spitfire sir, thanks a lot for the detailed analysis. // and removind EB2 spouses and children away from the quota and increasing it from 295K to 450 K will alll help increase the timelines of EB3. // When is this coming up again? Is it the same one which has been tried in Senate few months back but didn't happen since there is no enough majority to approve it? |

K9 Sodara: Avvadu. Ilaga STEM prvovisons (Masters and above) - and removind EB2 spouses and children away from the quota and increasing it from 295K to 450 K will alll help increase the timelines of EB3. As a matter of fact Hard country limit ani, uage limites ani chaal vacchiniyyi. Everything is favorable to the increased quota nd reduced time for EB-3. It is going ot get better for everyone - but it will just take some time. I am having some belief this time that it is going ot be bipartsan. The rallies will help and I am sure that they will be many more in the recess period. Singh Taraka Raamudu - BhaktaVatsaludu. |

It is anticipated the millions of people will take to the strrets all over US in the recess time. This BILL will live. The polity and beurocracy cannot ignore or discredit the Latino vote. Also keep in mind that atleast 20 senators are trying for Agriculotural worker amnesty - even conservatove Kansas. If proper measures are not in place - it will not be surpsing to see the control of the Senate and House slip to the Democrats - and the President (yes Dubya) being indicted with a strong push for impeachment. Life Sodara: >>hope at least by end of this year EB1 (sure) & EB2 for India might become current. >> This is very unlikely. Our best bet is still some version of this bill. Since the "legal" immigration as little opposition - the only way this will work is if is a part of another bill. The comprehensive immigration reform Bill(s) are not dead - Senator Kyl has just announced that he is bringing back his version - and there is a lot of activity due after the recess. Please remeber that although there are other singular bills related only to legalized immigration like PACE, WISH, TALENT etc - they will die in House-Senate conference as they are bound to be jetissoned/cut-off form bigger bills like Budget(happened last time S 1932) and Energy - becuase the lawmakers will claim that people are trying to sneak in urelated provisons in BILLS that adress very different issues. Last time the "legal" immigrant provisons made it through the senate along with the Budget reform Bill and were stuck down by the House saying that EB-Immigration has nothing to do with Budget. I hope I make sense. Singh Taraka Raamudu - BhaktaVatsaludu. |

SpitFire - Thanks for Initiating such a good thread. Irony is that there is no political party that cares for legal immigration as thats not going to give much political milage for them. Same vote bank politics everywhere in the world!! But assuming that no other law comes for our rescue, looking at the progressive moment of the EB numbers, I hope at least by end of this year EB1 (sure) & EB2 for India might become current. Lets wait and see how it goes! |

Venu SOdara: As of now - if the Bill was passed today - you are absolutely right!!! As an illegal alien you have the right to citizenship in 11 years - but you get a work permit right away and you can work with any company no questions asked with felixibility of jumping employers for a period of SIX( yes 6) years. Among all other benifits this is the most appealing for people like us. Singh Taraka Raamudu - BhaktaVatsaludu. |

Right now the SJC Bill (defeated two days ago) and the current Bill Frist Bill( with Hagel ammendemnt) adress the Legal immigartion issue but not to a very great extent. This recess although very long - and will probably lead to total darkness if other immortant issues( like CIA leak??) come into play - will also provide time for a lot of lobbying and contacting the senators. The RECCESS is good for a) The Republicans: BEcause they want to rebuild and tread careful before commiting to a vote on the floor of the senate. This is an election year and they are completely careful. The President with his all time low rating is not an asset anymore ( He had a whopping 64% approval during the last Senate elections( and about 50% during his re-elections). The Republics will probably not let the bill die as they are responsible to their huge "illegal" supporter vote. Also keep in mind that while the "illegal" people cannot vote - there supporters can - so there will be an enormous swing. b) Good for US (legal) Immigrants also - See the continuation post Taraka Raamudu - BhaktaVatsaludu. |

Dear All: After making groundbreaking and public announcements with the media hand-in-hand( Dems and Reps together) - they went back today. The CIA leak and very low rating for Bush has made the Republicans take a step back and think about the Immigration Bill. SO we will not have any movement until after the recess( two weeks). Keep in mind here that "legal" immigration ( for tax-paying and law abiding citizens) like us is only a small fraction (3%) of the bigger problem of "illegal" immigration which is about 12 million and counting. We will have to wait and suffer the ride until the lawmakers in the Senate and then the House decide on how to go about with the illegal immigrants. Also do not think that all illegal immigrants come from Mexico - there are a equal number of people form Midwest, Europe and South East Asia - who have overstayed their visit. Although Bush has made very public announcements in Mexico and Canada that he will arm-twist the house for an approval and he is confident that the sense will prevail in the Senate - his own people the Republicans( seeking re-election in a couple of months) do not know if the President himself and more so his policies are an asset or detrimental to their incumbency. The Senators are now advocating that better sense should prevail after the recess to address the immigration issue. So this bill is definitely not going to be decided before the recess. SO no news for the next 14 days. Singh Taraka Raamudu - BhaktaVatsaludu. |
