It may sound blasphemous to say the Lord God is taking the path of Chiranjeevi. But the God's men in Tirumala Tirupathi Devasthanam (TTD) gave vent to such an impression.
Film actor Chiranjeevi pioneered the practice of giving a chance to meet him and take a photograph for the people who donate blood to his charitable trust. The announcement itself shook many of his fans and the donations came in gallons. Millions of fans donated blood to his Trust, merely to get an autograph from him. The practice is still going on and the photograph session is being carried every second Saturday (now, the day must have changed).
Currently, TTD got inspired by this practice and going to attempt the same practice for Lord Venkateswara. The devotees, who donate blood in specified hospitals, would be given cellar tickets without any recommendation. The price of the ticket is only Rs. 200, but the recommendation from genuine authorities is a must to have a ticket. Now, TTD waived the recommendation aspect and replaced that with blood donation program.
This is indeed an interesting aspect to serve the needy along with serving the God. Millions of devotees who come from various places to have a darshan of Lord Venkateswara would donate blood to have a pleasant added darshan.
"This is fair idea. 'Manava Sevey Madhava Seva'. Devotees can donate blood happily to see beloved Lord", says Lakshmi, a lecturer.
"TTD is growing commercial these days. Will there be a check on collected blood as many may make money by selling the bottles of blood. Udayastamana Seva ticket is hiked from a whopping Rs. 5 lakhs to Rs. 10 lakhs miserably. TTD has grown hungry fro money. This blood donation program is not at all acceptable", says Ranga Rao, a manager in a company.
"Everybody is behind blood now. Even Chandrababu Naidu is encouraging blood donation and claiming that only his party is first among political parties in pioneering the donation camps. That's all for publicity stunt, just by taking inspiration from Chiranjeevi. We can't say if the motive of TTD is for service or for commerce", says a business analyst.
The feelings of the people are mixed in this aspect, but many are tending positive to the decision.
Well, now Lord Venkateswara asks for blood along with hair from his devotees. Probably, the Lord might have got bored with hair donations for centuries!!
