For me the most extraordinary scene was where Mahesh mouths the dialogue “ Eppudu vacchamu annadi kaadu annayya bullet diginda leda?” The histrionics he displayed in that scene were totally mind blowing, as I never expected him to mouth it in a way he did. If one actor can convince you that he can do what you would never imagine him to do, he has the markings of a great actor. |

The great chiranjeevi is always humble inspite of his numerous hits and I see the same quality in Mahesh. Unfortunately we haven’t used chiranjeevi to his total potential. I am yet to see performances matching his in chantabbai, rudraveena, Abilasha, Challenge, Apadhbandhavudu to name a few by actors of his generation. I wouldn’t hesitate to mention that I have immensely enjoyed his mass movies like gang leader and gharanamogudu even though I am not a fan of the mass genre as such. But I would say the earlier movies I mentioned before are enough to become his fan.

The Next Superstar of Telugu Movies
After some misses owing to personal matters I finally got a chance to see the much talked about movie Pokiri in USA. To sum it up in one sentence “ It was an extra ordinary performance by Mahesh “. Though I am wholehearted Megastar Chiranjeevi (fondly called by many as “chiru”) fan, this happened to be one of the mainstream non-chiranjeevi commercial movies I liked in the past few years (Nuvvu Naaku Nacchav, Manmadhudu, Athadu to name a few). I have been following Mahesh’s career with some interest since Okkadu. To me its one of the best movies in the Telugu film industry. One of the reasons could be that I went to the movie with no expectations as my wife dragged me to it. The movie raised enough interest in me that I conversed about Mahesh with colleagues and based on their recommendation watched another movie of his, Murari. Personally I felt the storyline of the movie was wafer thin but the production values, sentiment overdose (atleast acc to me) generated enough interest for me and my wife respectively to sit through the film. As the film moved towards the end, one of the finest performers of this generation unfolded right in front of my eyes. I mentioned the same to my friends and they readily agreed irrespective of their favorite hero. Anyways I can talk at length about the later movies arjun and the highly disastrous Naani in detail but this rambling for the time being is about the emerging Superstar of the industry.
The next movie “Athadu” cemented my opinion about the actor Mahesh. Here I am stressing on the word actor because he is one of the very few who does justice to the word itself. I happened to watch the movie this time with friends on a lazy weekend as I missed the usual company ☺. The first time I watched the movie in theatre, I had to explain the dialogues to the accompanying friend, as I was stupid enough to take the place between two guys who had really less mastery over the language. I happened to note few apt performances (one in the train, warning scene in the field), listen to the cold icy dialogues. On the way back home one of the south indian friends mentioned that he didn’t see anyone in the recent years who has underplayed the role to such perfection. I watched the movie again on DVD and that comment always comes to the mind. Overall I found it to be a movie with repeat value and the proof is the out of case DVD once in a while.
Coming back to pokiri it was quite obvious that his following grew to mighty proportions and I was back with my usual company and ready to enjoy the movie. He looked rugged, the dialogues crisp and delivered with utmost perfection. For me the most extraordinary scene was where Mahesh mouths the dialogue “ Eppudu vacchamu annadi kaadu annayya bullet diginda leda?” The histrionics he displayed in that scene were totally mind blowing, as I never expected him to mouth it in a way he did. A few days back I read his interview and I have to say I am more than impressed by his modesty and straightforward answers. But I would say the earlier movies I mentioned before are enough to become his fan. Coming back to Mahesh, I believe the next Superstar of Telugu movie has truly arrived. I request him to continue acting in versatile movies, maintain the standard of the movies (watchable by families) and give us more movies. He surely is going to be my No 1 favorite in future.
