Mahesh Babu’s Pokiri is really creating wonders as per as collections are concerned. The film has successfully completed 50 days run today (June 16, 2006) and that too in a record number of centers: 299. Pokiri was released on April 28th and since then it has been running to packed houses everywhere creating new records all the while.

And in Hyderabad city alone it had bumper crop in 18 theatres, a record for any Telugu film.

Can it reach 40 Crore?

The collections for 50 days are all time record, trade pundits say. It remains to be seen whether it can accrue Rs 40 Crores, as trade expects, in the end. If it does, it is really a great victory for not only Telugu film industry but also for South Indian film industry. Only one film in South India had reached that Rs 40 Crore mark: Chandramukhi.

Chennai Record!

The film has also created a record of sorts by collecting nearly Rs 50 Lakhs in Chennai city so far. It shows Mahesh’s growing popularity in new territories.

Overseas market expands!

Pokiri’s awesome success paved to high asking rates of other forthcoming films. Mahesh Babu’s Atadu was the biggest grocer in USA so far and Pokiri broke that record. Now, Chiranjeevi’s Stalin was sold off for an astronomical price of Rs 1.40 Crores. It goes same with the Sainikudu’s overseas rights. Pokiri has shown the way.

Tamil Pokiri

Pokiri is presently being remade by the same name in Tamil with hero Vijay and Asin as the lead pair. The film is being directed by Prabhudeva. It was recently launched in Tamil by our Telugu producer Singanamala Ramesh who bagged the rights from Puri Jaganndh. Manisharma scores the music there too.
