Bollywood singer Udit Narayan, who had been denying bigamy charges so far, for the first time accepted that Ranjana Jha was his first wife on Friday. Narayan appeared before the Bihar State Commission for Women in Patna on Friday and told chairperson Manju Prakash that he had no problem in keeping his first wife with him. Though, the bollywood singer avoided media queries, Ranjana Jha said she was happy as Udit Narayan had accepted her. “I waited for this very moment for the last 20 years. I have no problem if my husband wants to keep Deepa Narayan (second wife of the bollywood singer) as his wife,” she said. Earlier, Manju Prakash had asked Udit Narayan to appear before the commission on July 28 and clear his stand over bigamy charges levelled on him by a woman. The commission had served several notices to the bollywood singer in the past but he did not appear citing various reasons. Recently, Udit Narayan was given 15 days time to solve the matter. On Friday he informed the commission in writing that Ranjana Jha was his first wife and assured that he would accept her. A warrant of arrest could have been issued against Narayan if he had failed to appear before the commission on Friday. The bollywood singer had flown to Patna on June 30 and met Ranjana Jha at the Jai Prakash Narayan international airport hinting at an early settlement of the dispute. After meeting with her husband, Ranjana Jha had said, “I expect that he would accept me, now.” The matter surfaced for the first time on April 21, when Ranjana Jha sat outside the room, occupied by Udit Narayan and Deepa Narayan, of a posh hotel in Patna demanding the bollywood singer to accept her has his wife. Later, Ranjana Jha had moved the Women’s Commission with evidence, including photographs of their marriage. Now, when the matter has been solved, Ranjan Jha said she would lift the case filed against her husband. |
