Vijayashanthi posters burnt

Telegu film actor Vijayashanthi has bashed numerous ‘baddies’ in her latest film, ‘Nayudamma’. But outside the theatre, roles were reversed a month after the film’s release - Vijayashanthi and the film were slammed by disillusioned fans, who burnt posters and cut-outs of the film. Their grouse was the actor’s support for a separate Telengana state.

“Her effort is to take up any issue and emerge in politics. And therefore she has picked up the issue of Telangana,” said a disgruntled film buff in Hyderabad.

“Obviously, coastal people don't want to separate from Andhra Pradesh. So her following is reducing in coastal area. So
NTR and MGR has a following all over the state, but Vijayashanthi is only taking up Telangana,” some said.

The actor herself, meanwhile, says a powerful lobby in the Telugu film industry is trying to sabotage her career.

“Some people are involved... Each and everyone I know and each and very information I have with me. I don't want to go into details. If I do, all the truths will come out, and there will be a huge war between us,” said Vijayashanthi.

With her entry into politics on the separate Telangana state platform still not picking up support, films are still priority for Vijayashanthi as through them she can retain at least a film fan following. Negative reactions of the Telugu film industry to her move notwithstanding, this female Amitabh Bacchan, has unlike the original, decided to stick to her guns, both in politics and films.
