b. process which extracts data from ODS tables into data warehouse...

mamma .. they were using SAS .. now we are migrating them to OWB R2(Paris) and since they are in ODS layer most of the tables are designed Master and Detail .
Since we get most of the data as flat files from the MainFrame . Instead of loading the data into Master and Detail .. I am planning to have one Master and use either VARRAY or Nested table to store the Detail data in the same table. . |

Bottom line is you should not use collections for the purpose of bulk binding. If you are already using collections (you have some business logic to perform, sorting etc.), then bulk binding is very useful. However for the sole purpose of bulk binding, creating collections may not be reasonable.

though, i used bulk binding/fetching/for all, i never bothered to check the time against normal fetch... i just read oracle docs and started using bulk fetches/bind wherever applicable/appropriate |

But see here, collections are always expensive in all the languages. You have to use collections only if required. So the response times are generally higher in case of collections. |

They'll definitely increase the performance (bulk binds, bulk collect). pl/sql engine doesn't need to bind n' number of times, if we use 'BULK COLLECTS' |

mamma , I want to dig into your experience.
I have been asked to re design a data model for our DWH input (ODS) staging tables which were designed some 6 years ago . Now due to high data volumes.We are having some performance problems.
I am on a massive de-normalizing job , and thinking of using VARRAY's or Nested Tables on Oracle 10G ....
taking performance into consideration which one would go for ? |
