Probable ministers in YSR cabinet on Sep 29th! Chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy is likely to expand his cabinet on September 29, sources in the government indicated. Taking a day off from his hectic schedule, the chief minister spent a quiet holiday with his family at Mahabalipuram near Chennai on Monday. YSR is believed to have finalised the list of new ministers to be included in the expanded cabinet. Sources close to the CM indicated that the exercise has “more or less” been completed and the list would be submitted to Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday when she arrives on a day’s visit to Kadapa and Kurnool. The chief minister may even go to New Delhi on September 28 for a “formal ratification” of the list of ministers. The chief minister has not made any entry in the engagement register for Sept. 29 and the only entry in it could be the cabinet expansion, the sources said. Traditionally, the CM visits Tirumala on the Garudavahana Seva day during the annual Brahmotsavams to present silk clothes to the deity on behalf of the state government. This year, it falls on the 29th (Friday). However, the chief minister chose to advance the programme to Monday so that he can stay back in Hyderabad for the swearing-in ceremony, CMO sources pointed out. While chief minister Y S Rajasekhara mulls the expansion of his cabinet, grapevine has it that Assembly Speaker K R Suresh Reddy may replace Ponnala Laxmaiah as the new irrigation minister. This in a way will be a demotion for Laxmaiah. Municipal administration minister Koneru Ranga Rao, who is escaping the axe, too will be shunted to a less important ministry. From Chittoor, Gali Muddukrishnama Naidu appears a sure bet for a ministerial slot despite stiff opposition from another senior MLA Galla Aruna. Caste calculations will determine whether or not Vatti Vasantha Kumar from West Godavari realises his dream of becoming a minister. In case Mandali Buddha Prasad from Krishna district — as being widely speculated — gets a berth, Vatti will miss the bus while Maganti Babu will take the oath. Though Union minister Renuka Chowdhury is strongly opposing the candidature of Sambhani Chandrasekhar, the CM is favourably inclined towards him. In all probability, this former minister may once again become a minister. Interestingly, no other name is being heard from this district for a cabinet berth and this may prove a blessing in disguise for Sambhani. There could also be a curious factor in the ensuing expansion. One of the socalled “Hyderabad Brothers” — Khairatabad MLA P Janardhan Reddy and Sanathnagar MLA Marri Shashidhar Reddy — could walk away with a cabinet berth despite being strong critics of YSR. It is being seen as a tactical ploy by the CM’s camp to “break the pair” by taking one of them into the government and thereby stem the dissidence. Shashidhar Reddy could be the lucky one as he is seen a “mellowed man.” The Telangana Regional Congress Coordination Committee leader G Chinna Reddy is also on the probables list. With his name being considered for the Karimnagar Lok Sabha by-election, Jagityal MLA T Jeevan Reddy will have to sit with his fingers crossed for the time being. http://www.greatandhra.com/gossips/sep2006/speaker _probable.php
