RDB no way. It's adhi oscar judge ski ekkadhu. That too is not great concept(ultimately it's like any other revenge drama) like Lage raho Munnbhai. RDB ki hype ekkuvaindhi.
So Munnabhai all the way...when compared to RDB. |

i dint see lage raho yet. dint get time - while i really liked Rang de.. hmm, for my telugu mindset - the climax was "novel", but cud hv been better.. the BG score for da scene whr Madhvan's mother get dragged and curfew, could hv been instrumental and mood-evoking (like bombay theme music), rather than a guitar and asha bhonsle singing.. thats the only complains i hv against the film. otherwise very good.. the Delhi backdrop is nice, bored of seeing bombay in bollywood movies.
now, matter enti ante.. Is it "Oscar" worthy. I am skeptical.. coz, I dunno wat the judges there like. I dunno much bout world cinema, though i hv seen a few..
OMKARA shud hv been sent to Oscars. the very fact thats its a shakespherean work would evoke immdt interest. and its adapted well and made well.. but only drawback - old story (for them atleast). They wont get excited anywhere, to press da button and say "this is it.. the best film of dis yr."
RangDe has a lotsa masala and indian flavour. indian diaspora ki OK - but wat abt international audience? would they enjoy da humor in da first half? what about the length - its quite long? Aur songs? they were slow-poison in india except "apni tho paatshala" and da title song.
Critics say, "anything wil win - if story is right." and antha story undali ante.. it has to be a drama, like say Crash or City of God (i mean that league, not genre). Antha gripping story in recent times is "Apaharan" starring Ajay devgan or Gangajaal much before.. I am not able to recall any movie from south in recent times, which had very gripping stories - which can cut barriers and appeal to all ppl. Anukokunda is good - but again only regional appeal. Aa Naluguru : good, but same case. Some mani ratnam or artsy mallu flick might be there, but I dunno.. There's dis amazin film "Thamilan" which has gripping drama. can anyone say.. on how judges would judge da film, especially "From india" annaventate.. they will carry thier baggage of songs and melodrama and some regional bias maybe.. What do you think? |
