Showbiz is one industry you would associate with egos, insecurities and stress - the pitfalls of fame. Stardom can take you to dizzying heights and cast you into deep, dark holes. Each star finds a different means to cope but Venkatesh, who has spent years in the blinding limelight, says it's all a matter of looking within and realising that nothing's for real. His interest in the metaphysical began during the Preminchukundam Raa days, a time when hits were rolling out of his kitty. "I had 15 hits but realised that I was not reacting to all that was happening around me." It was then that the actor approached a 'spiritual master' who guided his quest for the truth.

Venkatesh says that the best way to soul station is killing one's individuality. Asked if he follows Sri Sri Ravi Shankar's Art of Living, the actor shoots: "It's the Art of Dying actually. The spiritualism that I follow prepares me for death and any other eventuality in life."

The actor says even during his teen years, he found it strange when people asked him what his goal was. "Goal, ambition, these were concepts I couldn't understand. Sure I am famous but as a person I can't identify with Venky, the star," says he. Some of us go to great lengths to look for God, what we don't realise is that God is right behind us looking after us, feels the actor who is currently creating ripples in the box office with his "kill and pay back" cop character in Gharshanaa. Venkatesh says that it took his family, especially his brother Suresh Babu and dad D Rama Naidu, time to accept his ethereal leanings. "But now they understand though I never force my thoughts upon anybody," he says.

On his ever calm frame of mind, Venkatesh has this to say: "I am not saying I don't have desires. It's natural. But it's all about making choices. I don't play the game anymore, I just watch the game."
