http://www.greatandhra.com/interviews/chiru_interv iew.html In a pair of red leather pants, red boots and funky jewellery, Chiranjeevi looks ever so comfy. An ensemble which perhaps would cause even Govinda to blush a little but the megastar is totally at ease. The actor who has been bashing up villains, flirting with heroines, singing songs, making us laugh and cry with ease for two-and-a-half decades is any interviewer's delight. He is currently busy shooting for his latest venture Shankardada MBBS, at Ramanaidu Studios, Nanakramguda. A song sequence from the film is under production. Chiranjeevi says he feels proud that Munnabhai MBBS bagged a National Award recently. "This proves that our story selection is right," he says. On his sudden desire for a lighter film, the star says, "After doing films like Indra and Tagore, the expectations of audiences were sky high. I wanted to do something different from the usual hero beating up villain, saviour of people kind of roles." Chiranjeevi was on the lookout for a good script when he saw Munnabhai. "I just fell in love with the film and the role." Chiranjeevi relaxes in his chair after the shot and continues to talk about Shankardada's progress, "The film is coming out well. We will most probably release the film by end of September, so that there is no competition for Pavan's Gudumba Shankar." He adds, "Sanjay Dutt played a dada in the film who never fought or hit anyone, but in Telugu it will not be accepted. So, we added a few fight scenes, but they too are comic in nature." The actor had recently visited Athens to witness the Olympics. He was the only star from India who was taken to Athens by Coca- Cola. Recalling his experience at the Games, Chiru says, "It was an opportunity of a lifetime, it felt great to visit the land where it all started. All the Greeks were jubilant to see the Games in their own country after so many years." With a smile he adds, "There were no fans there to mob me and I had a whole week for myself and my family. We were invited as part of the Coke Family that was represented by 1,500 people from all around the world." Chiranjeevi who is habituated to being mobbed by his fans recollects that Athens was peaceful. But on the journey back home, at Frankfurt, he was mobbed by a group of people with cameras. "They started to shake my hand and asked me for autographs." His last two films Shankardada.. and Tagore are remakes of films that were hits in other languages. But the Chiranjeevi says, "My next film is a definite straight subject and it will most probably be directed by Sreenu Vytla, under the Geetha Arts banner. The shooting of the film will start after the completion of Shankardada or early October." Whoever has seen the star recently will definitely vouch that he looks younger and slimmer. "There is no specific secret to my being slim and youthful. I think a good diet and respect towards the profession have helped me maintain my image. The expectations of my fans have also been a major influence," says the star with a smile. Nenu Saitam, a song from Tagore, won the National Award for best lyrics. Talking about the song Chiru says, "The movie had a few low points in the final emotional climax. We needed something to up the tempo. That is when I decided that there should be a song that invokes vigour in the audience. Ashok Teja came out with great lyrics and the rest is history." Chiranjeevi celebrated his 49th birthday on August 22 amid much fanfare but the star himself is pretty offhanded about it. "Once birthdays used to excite me a lot. In the early days, I used to celebrate the birthday with my family, then it was the producers and directors who wanted to celebrate my birthday. And now it is cinema audiences who celebrate it, like it is their own day. I am really happy that my fans are happy on that day," says he.
