Chalam Sodara, "Bastardization of facts"...that's a fascinating arguement put forward by it. Had it appeared in any American owned idea, I would have completely bought your views because their global perspectives starts and ends with the middle-east. But British Media (I am not including the tabloids here) goes to great lengths to report the facts. Have you seen any other famous media network incurring the wrath of the Central government of the country where its operations are based (Tony Blair Vs BBC in David Kelly's case)? Or have you come across any media tearing apart people like Berlusconi for his wrongdoings (The Economist vs Silvero Berlusconi)? That's the kind of reputation that preceeds these institutions and it would be a sacrilage to accuse them of indulging in spin doctoring on these kind of issues! Sometimes, the facts might appear to be colored but attributing them to the colonialistic influences is probably over-reacting to the issue on hand. Moreover, I don't think any Indian would be too pleased to write about such inhumane things especially in foreign owned media. The whole idea of starting this thread is to highlight the growing income inequalities bought about by this recent economic success. It should be noted that India is just one among the many countries to experience this and more importantly the point to be noted is this economic dichotamization will continue if these rapid growth rates are sustained. Hence it will be wise on our part to ask the goverment to take corrective actions instead of blaming the institutions that report them! Indian media with respect to some towering institutions is a different ball game altogether! Hanuman/Jamadagni |

That's the reason why I hate communists inIndia. Actually speaking, communists in INDIA are fit for notjing. They (specially communists from BENGAL) tehy totally changed INDIAN HISTIRY & MYTHOLOGY and made the people believe that they are true. Some times I feel so sad about this. Any book or article written by these so called communists in INDIA are tatally biased . They always degrade HINDUISM and write favorably to MUSLIm ru;ers etc.. BLOODY IDIOTS. eNDHUKINTHA BADHA ANTE.. NENU CIVILS rasinapudu Indian HIstory optional tho rassanu. Then I came across amnay books which are totally biased. |

about the desi journalist, THATs the best way to make it sound reasonable. the exact same question you got would come in other desi minds and then they think that whats been written is prolly true. this tactic was earlier used to make Hinduism a laughing stock. people with Hindu names ( but staunch communists who had no belief in any religion other than marxism) would write about Hinduism in atrocious terms. when read by a westerner who knows jackshit about hinduism, this sounds eminently believable and hence the std stereotypes of cow-piss drinking hindus. Notice that people on www.dalitstan.org almost always carry Hindu names, though they are full fledged christians by any standard. |

LOL, good quesion. whats the motive for western countries to continuously tarnish India as a country full of beggars and what not. to give it a hi-fi name, it's called psy-ops and BBC plays a more than passive role in this. The head of the south asian dept in BBC was recently changed and the new guy is a pakistani. what else do you expect? Did you notice that every aticle used to have a customary reference to the 'fascist' Hindu-nationalist party and how India's minorities have a tough time - earlier on? After the 'india shining' campaign, such stmtns wouldnt evoke sympathy from the readers, hence tis been dropped - one positive offshoot of this whole thing. Media, as fourth estate plays a very crucial role in democracies. in some like India's govt does not fully control the media and hence it;s often used by powerful parties to mould national opinion. why is timesofindia increasingly publishing articles about kashmir becoming another switrzerland and what not ? therer are motives and pressures from outside parties - to mould public opinion. infact, I have first hand info of how you could get anything published in ToI using one bottle of chivas reagal and some green bucks.

What would be the underlying motive of BBC to publish this...moreover, it is written by a desi journalist. |

first akkada vallu should say clearly that they are part of India. u dump money, it goes to separatists from other states, not an easy problem to be solved. India shining is a feel good idea that is supposed to act as positive catalyst. would this fact of the unemployed youth even come out if not for someone's idea to rubbish the 'india shining' slogan ?

Definite gaaMaama...no one is finding fault with the youth there! I am only empathizing with them! Eeeda manam cheesee panulu vallu akkadee cheesthunnaru. But I was only appalled by the lackadaisical attitude. Government ki salaahalu icchentha vaadinikaadhu kaani but I can certainly tell that the government can start some public work programs like building roads etc and allocate the contracts to the qualified youth. Why all this, what prevents the state government there to give loans to these guys so that they can atleast run auto rickshaws? These manual rickshwas are grossly inhumane...one of the reasons why MGR enjoyed cult like following with the masses in TN even today is because of his decision to ban the man powered rickshaws.
