“It’s all the media that is defaming the stars these days. From the recent past with the mushroom growth in the number TV Channels, Websites and Magazines stars are facing the music of many controversies unlike before. Every new comer in media wants to grab fame and increase the viewer-ship of his own channel or site. On the other hand even the established Newspapers and TV Channels are struggling to maintain the tempo of their sale by competing with new comers and thus writing and showing all rubbish”, says Ganesh, an Assistant Director. “ A leading English News Paper recently portrayed many film heroes in its special supplement in a notorious way. Mahesh is also included in its list. It can be termed as ‘much ado about nothing’. Film stars are becoming the victims of denigration in the creation of sensational news”, says a person at a film theater. However, Cine personalities are very frequently hitting the news these days. Many have been opining that there is no proper support to Film Industry from the present Government unlike the pampering that the TDP Government has showered. Stars being involved in controversial incidents is not new to Tollywood. But unlike Bollywood, where the matter always comes out in the open, as in the case of Salman Khan's bratty behaviour, Tollywood has traditionally kept things under wraps. Today, the media and the people are not so forgiving. We see heroes making news of the negative kind. The most high profile case was that of Balakrishna, who allegedly shot producer Bellamkonda Suresh and astrologer Satyanarayana Chowdary. The news made screaming headlines for days. Then there's Mohan Babu, known for his violent temper. The darker side was out in the open when he beat up Shilpa Sivanand, the heroine of his son Vishnu's debut film, for refusing to do a kissing scene. Mohan Babu had to go to the police station, something he had done in relation to other cases as well. Pawan Kalyan, known for his eccentricities, was in the dock a couple of months ago, when he attacked a scribe. He also conducted a rally against a newspaper and was arrested. Noted director Teja allegedly beat a junior artiste. Many Tollywood insiders back up their people. Says a producer who does not wish to be named, "Even stars are human beings. They too have emotions. If somebody comes and slaps you, will you show him your other cheek, like Gandhi? However, those incidents are unfortunate." According to another industry source, "Just because of stars' popularity, people like to discuss these things." According to Sastry, an engineering student and a die hard fan of a hero, "To get stardom is not an easy job, it's God's gift. Our heroes should behave like human beings. They have to inspire their fans in a positive way, not like this." Some industry people, who refuse to come out openly, agree with the public. "Even the government gives special treatment to these celebrities. Why this partiality?" questions Sarada, a teacher." Any answers? |
