kashmir king wanted to remain independent but was afraid of pak. patel negotiated well with him. ppl did NOT prefer one over the other. but after paki army attached kashmir, ppl were with India.

who promised and which part of India had this ?
5. btw during the merger itself indian govt promised independent "country" status to kashmir.
this is also news. all that was promised was a referendum under certain conditions.
fan mama, kashmir insurgency is a direct result of american policies in afghanistan. all the money that went to cultivate mujahideen for the afghan war was fromthe US. after soviet fall, in 1989 there were thousands of jihadis salivating for war. pakistan smartly turned them to kashmir and rest is history. ofcourse, farooq abdullah also fucked up big time and as fate would have it, the elections in J&K around 86/87 were heavily rigged in favor of farooq. so ppl were very upset.

2. Similarly Hyd Nawab wanted to go with Pak and people wanted to go with India. India govt military action and Hyd went to India.
3. At the time of invasion immdtly after independence there was no attack from indian side and we kept quiet.
4. basic eminities or rural development never occured rapidly as promised to kashmir.
5. btw during the merger itself indian govt promised independent "country" status to kashmir.
6. during 1971 war we had every opportunity to reoccupy our lost land and including part of Pak (remember our troops went until Lahore and had to come back).
ila seppukuntoo pote pedda bharatam avuddi. iam not that much dilchaspi now to discuss and let me njoy the cine discussions.

New Delhi, September 28: If mobile phone ring tones are any indication of sentiment, revolt-weary Kashmiris have plumped for Pakistan over India.
A growing number of people in Kashmir are choosing Pakistan's national anthem as the ring tone on their newly allowed mobile phones, a leading newspaper said on Tuesday.
Students in Kashmir, where India is struggling to quell a 15-year revolt, told the newspaper they had received the anthem from friends in Pakistan and had passed it on to others.
"This does not mean Kashmiris want to be part of Pakistan, people just feel closer to it," the newspaper quoted Ali Mohammad, a taxi driver in the summer capital Srinagar, as saying.
Mobile phones were only introduced in Kashmir last year by a government operator after security agencies dropped long-standing objections. This month, private operator Bharti Tele-Ventures Ltd, the second largest mobile services firm, began services.
India and Pakistan have started talks aimed at finding a solution to the decades-old dispute over the scenic Himalayan region

that is no surprise to me frankly. since long back 15yrs ago itself most of the kashmiris (read as muslims) follow pak time instead of IST. THe media also call those guys as militants instead of terrorists.
