Thanks a lot Abhimaani! Yeah, I do agree with you completely ..so can u suggest me any good book written by an Indian Author. Also, Have u got any Idea about the book "In Search of the Cradle of Civilization: New Light on Ancient India by Georg Fuerstein, Subhash Kak, David Frawley". Coz, I've heard that this book is good, ofcoursefrom an Andhrite ... Any Idea abt this one?? How far is it worth buying? \clipart {icon_question} |

I'd suggest you to not only read such books by foreign authors, but also by Indian authors. I haven't read many, but one good book is - "Andhrula Sanghika Charithra" by Suravaram Pratap Reddy, assuming you're a telugu person. You'll also find quite a few references of other books there. One major difference I find between foreign and Indian authors is that the foreign authors try to base their theories only on the availability of documents or Saasanams (note that this tendency of foreign authors is only seen towards the civilizations that they're NOT familiar with. Many of them don't follow the same rule for western civilizations), while the Indian authors try to deduce their theories from literature (eg. references of Chanakya in later authors' books) as well as from documents. I find the Indian Authors' approach to be more authentic, atleast w.r.t Indian History.

Hey folks! Can anyone suggest me a good book on Ancient India / History of India... i'm planning to buy one. Some good one's known to me are: 1. In Search of the Cradle of Civilization: New Light on Ancient India by Georg Fuerstein, Subhash Kak, David Frawley 2. India: A History, by John Keay 3. A Brief History of India, by Alain Daniélou, Kenneth F. Hurry 4. Lonely Planet India, by Sarina Singh I know there are still a lot more books on ancient India, history of India, civilizations etc... ... ,but I'm looking for one that's really good...a one which, not only just throws light upon the civilizations but covers them in depth!! Thankyou
