if they win against the heat today maybe... maybe the momentum will carry them to the playoffs.. if they lose tonite.. that might be it for the season.. denver's got an easy schedule and the wolves are still tied with the lakers for the 9th spot... i just wish one of these two teams beats denver for that 8th spot.. no lakers and no KG in playoffs wont be fun |

KG plays with such passion that its hard to fault his on-court stuff.. but off the court i think he needs to be more vocal.. being the mvp and the franchise player he shld have ripped apart spree and cassell for their unprof behaviour.. its not like he's a rookie and they r veterans.. he's a senior player too now and he wld be speaking up for the right reasons |

Minnisote is struggling and they will need to rebuild the team again around KG. They don't have another good team player other than KG in that team.
If they get that 8th spot that will be just because of KG.
When compared to Minni Lakers are lot better.
Lamar and Atkins are playing well, only Caron Butler is strugling.
Chris mihm played well in the start of the season but he is struggling now may be the coach change effected his game.
I hope Lakers make playoffs and play Seatlle or Phoenex in the first round.
Still Shaq's trade is a good thing for Lakers otherwise they would have made playoff's again and that's it. They cann't beat Detroit and SA with the nucleus around shaq and kobe and they cann't pay 32 million to Shaq every year.
They will need to make some moves in the off season and need to bring a good coach and they will be a contendor next year. |

oak mama.. its not an ideal world.. its money that caused the breakup.. the ego problems are just excuses... shaq wanted an extension for $100m.. not for this season.. not for the next... its for 3 years from 2006.. age 34-37... if they dint sign him for an extension he would have opted out after the end of this season.. the lakers would have lost him with no compensation... i still believe they could have gotten more than what they got in the trade. but trading him was a wise move.
as per reports phil wanted around 12.5m per year for 3 years and this after failing to win a championship with kobe and shaq for 2 straight years. this is a so-so call. he might still get that money next year but maybe an year break would help both him and kobe and they can appreciate each other a lil better.. at least respect each other a lil bit more...
now to kobe... they r building around a top 5 top 10 nba player... he's only 26... it will take at least a couple of years to get a good team around him... and they r still above .500 and hanging on to that 8th spot (in the strong west) and kobe is huge factor in that... which is more than we can say about the likes of KG and AI.... give them some time.. rebulding needs patience... and of course kobe needs to improve a lot too.. |

Very easy to say. Shaq is the nucleus of Miami team. I am sure Odom and Atkins would have performed better with Shaq around.
I agree with u that the 32 million pay for aging Shaq is absurd. As a laker fan(I belong to lala land) i am repenting the loss of Shaq. Hopefully all the things u said would come true in the seasons ahead, but the road ahead still looks bleak to me. |

Lakers did a good thing trading Shaq.
If Shaq was there they cann't get anymore young talent to the team. In 45million salary cap he wants 32 million and Kobe will take 14million so they r already above the cap limit. They tried with that combo for 2 years, they even got Malone and Payton still they cann't get the title.
It will work for Miami because Wade is still in Rookie pay for next year also there is no problem but then they won't accpet Shaq's contract when they have to pay huge bucks for Wade.
For Lakers Kobe will be the leader for the next 6-7 years and Lamar,Butler and Chris Mim r just around 25.
So that is young nucleus, they just need good backup center, starting point gaurd and good bench scorer which they will get by next year.
Once they get playing good ball game that team will be tough to beat.
They will need a good starting point gaurd, Chucky Atkins is good fit for reserve role not for starter role.
Right now they have couple of bad contracts like Brian Grant and Vlade Divac, this year they can't move them but next year will be their last year of contract so they can move them.
This year if they cann't make play off's that's not a big deal they will get good pick in the lottery after long long time.
Since kobe is there atleast they will win 35-40 games this year, if they let kobe go and kept Shaq with the same team they might have won 25-30 games.
Miami is not only winning because of Shaq, Wade is the reason for their wins.
Still i don't think they can beat Detroit in a 7 game series.
Lakers won't make playoff's Shaq won't go to NBA finals.
So both Kobe and Shaq lost because of the split but in the long term it is good for Kobe and Lakers.
In short term it is good for Shaq and Miami.
Shaq is clever he went to a team where there is another Star.
Kobe is all alone but he will turn things around with couple of peaces and good coach next season. |

...they heat has wade last year also...and if my memory serves me right...they barely made the playoffs...

nole mama remember that shaq has wade in miami. The lakers are the big money team, they won't be down for long. When they bring in a second scoring threat to go along with kobe look out.
