you will see more than 20 drivers listed in the driver championship standings because sometimes the official team driver is out of the race due to injury or other personal reasons. the backup driver then takes his place |

the bottom 5 teams in the constructers championship from the previous year can run three cars in friday practice this year. hence you will see upto 25 cars on fridays. |

friday practice session lo 25 drivers unTaru...but when it comes to qualifying and the actual race itself...each team is only allowed to field 2 cars and there are ten teams in total.
AFA the indy fiasco....micheallin which is the tyre supplier to 7 of the 10 teams, others having Bstones for shoes, discovered on friday that their tyres wouldnt last the 73 lap US GP and hence adviced the teams not to take part for safety reasons. The problem was on turn 13, a banked turn taken on full throttle in 7th gear. The banking in combination with the lateral G forces compremised the structure of the miche tyres and miche's guesstimate was that they wouldnt last more than 10 laps.
hence all the frech tyre shod cars decided to forgo the race. |

The US Grand Prix became a six-car race Sunday when seven teams - including championship front runners Renault and McLaren - pulled out over concerns over the safety of their Michelin tyres. While all 20 qualified cars formed up on the grid, the 14 cars running on Michelin tyres were all back in the pits at the end of a warm-up lap, leaving Ferrari, Minardi and Jordan in the field.
