http://cricket.expressindia.com/fulleistory.php?co ntent_id=78388 The day after his flamboyant propeller run, after hitting South African pacer Andre Nel for a six, it’s Sreesanth’s other aggro act — cupping his hands in front of Hashim Amla after dismissing the bearded No 3 — that has got him into trouble. RELATED STORIES • Safs top order be warned, says Lorgat • I take the final call: Dravid • India clinch historic Test win Umpires Daryl Harper and Mark Benson reported him to match referee Roshan Mahanama, though the soft-spoken Amla told The Indian Express after the match, “He never said anything to me. And I am not upset with him at all. It’s OK.” Obviously, the match officials think otherwise. He was fined 30 per cent of his match fee for two offences during the match. Mahanama, acting on a complaint by the umpire, found Sreesanth guilty of following Amla, after he was out and also for showing a logo on his inner wear. “Sree was reported and we had a hearing with the match referee. It was for the Amla incident,” said Team India skipper Rahul Dravid. Oh yes, the 23-year-old Team India spearhead has made a serious impact here, in just his sixth Test. Not just with those eight wickets. Today, after the match both captains, Dravid and Graeme Smith, were in splits when asked to rewind to that Nel moment. And both agreed that the game needs characters like him. Laughing loudly, Smith said, “It was a funny moment. I don’t think I have ever seen it on a cricket field. It’s a tough one to talk about. We are all up for characters in the game, I have always encouraged characters in the game. It is important to have them. It brings people into the stadium, makes the game exciting to watch. But I think it’s all got to be within reason. Maybe, he pushed the buttons a bit there. But he’s got a lot of energy.” Smith did have some nice words about Sreesanth’s cricket, too. “He bowled well, he hit the best areas in the game. He swung the ball away from a straight line, which is always difficult to play. His seam action is pretty good, he ran with a lot of energy. All credit to him, he really bowled superbly throughout the game and deserves his success.” Dravid, understandably, was a bit more circumspect. “I would like to focus on his bowling more. He bowled very well, and that’s what’s important. Obviously, he’s a character of the game, but he also needs to be careful because we don’t want him to miss a match or something.” But by now, the mask was beginning to slip, and Dravid started smiling. “But yes, he’s one of the characters of the team, and every team needs a few of them. If everybody is the same, it’s not too good. But sure, his response to Nel with the bat was important. The six was important but what he did after that was...” The skipper then laughed out loud. “I enjoy everything Sreesanth does when he bowls well. It was good fun, both of them are characters of the game and they need to be enjoyed and celebrated.” While Sreesanth was docked 20 per cent of his match fee for unsportsmanlike conduct after he ran towards Hashim Amla, the paceman was also fined a further 10 per cent of his match fee for breaching the International Cricket Council's logo policy. "Policy states that all garments worn under the playing shirt...must be plain white," the ICC said. "Contrary to that instruction, Sreesanth wore a black garment under his shirt while batting and then later in the day...(his) white garment under his playing shirt displayed a commercial logo." Mahanama added, "The fact that Sreesanth breached the policy not once but twice showed a lack of respect and although he once again pleaded guilty it was still appropriate he was fined for his actions."
