The nexus between the lucrative emigration racket and politicians throws up startling facts with each passing day.
Now a definite Andhra Pradesh connection seems to be emerging. Copies of passports and documents available with NDTV point fingers at several Telangana Rashtra Samiti MPs and MLAs.
NDTV team went to the local residence of TRS MLA Kasipeta Lingaiah armed with copies of his passport and another passport issued in the name of his wife and also his children.
The door was locked but his son Shivaji was inside. After some convincing, Shivaji confirmed that the photographs in the passports were neither his mother's nor his. All other family details were correct.
NDTV called Lingaiah who was away in Godavarikhani. He said he had asked passport agent Rashid to make passports for his wife and three children but never collected the passport. And that neither he nor his family has ever travelled abroad.
NDTV: We have got a letter which says you sought chief minister YS Rajasekhar Reddy's signature as recommendation for issue of visa for you and your family to visit the US?
Lingaiah: I never asked for it. I gave all my documents to the agent and he did everything.
NDTV: The agent is Rashid?
Lingaiah: Yes.
NDTV: Where did you meet him? Did another MLA introduce him?
Lingaiah: No, I met him outside the passport office.
According to documents made available to NDTV, as many as three MPs and six MLAs, all belonging to the Telangana Rashtra Samiti, could be linked to the emigration racket.
It is alleged that they had helped some Gujarati women and children travel abroad in the name of their own family members.
NDTV met former Central minister and Medak MP Narendra.
It is alleged that he made a diplomatic passport in the name of his wife but sent two Gujarati women abroad by tampering with the photographs. It's a charge Narendra refutes.
''Myself and my family have not travelled anywhere abroad,'' said A Narendra, TRS MP, Medak.
The police says Rashid could be a crucial link to establish the unholy nexus between the lucrative emigration racket and the politically powerful
